    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Point taken. This will probably (hopefully) be the only and last time I take this motor apart anyway. So I guess the felpro brand tty head bolts for this motor are fine? Anyone got an opinion on the felpro gaskets?

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Yep, I agree about the pull and rebuild. I was honestly thinking about selling our deuce (which I still might sell it soon down the road, as I really don't have a need for it now) and buying a new engine. But after giving it some more thought, I think I'm just going to rebuild this engine if I...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Yeah, I know I could drop the pan and take a look. I've even heard of people rebuilding an engine while it's still in the chassis. But with it already broken down to this point, it won't take a lot more to go ahead and pull it. That way I can fully inspect it and rebuild it. Which after sleeping...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Those are all good points Cucvrus, the "don't fix it if it ain't broken" thought line :-) The only thing that makes me hesitant about this motor at this point, is when we first got the truck, I thought the "dealer" we got it from had only screwed with the wiring and stuff. Then I found out they...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I wanted to thank everyone who replied! The information has been a great help! I'm not sure what I'll do yet... but I am at least considering just putting a new engine in it. Although we would have to sell an all aluminum cargo trailer that we have... or the deuce... maybe both. Need it to be...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

I have already purchased a full set of all felpro gaskets... not sure if that was the best option. I can return them all, as none of them have been used at all yet. I also ordered new felpro headbolts. But they are still Torque to Yield. Didn't know there was another option. Really like those...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

The exhaust gaskets... or lack of... is strange to me... never knew of an engine that didn't need them. I mean I guess it doesn't hurt anything, but would seem to me that it would at least cause more engine noise to escape or something. I could be wrong though. Yeah, seems like on most GM...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

What is the issue with the webs exactly? I've seen several places mention this, but none of them actually stated what the issue was. ~Thanks

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Well, these gaskets weren't quite that bad, but they were in pretty bad shape. Good to hear that the bottom end is lesser prone to issues. I have read that some of the 6.2's were prone to cracks in the blocks. But you haven't found that to be the case? Thanks for info!

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Wow..... these new upgraded long blocks are a lot higher than I imagined. Would love to have one, but don't think I can swing $7k+ Looks like $2k for two new heads... if I want hardened valve seats... not sure why I would want "NON hardened valve seats".... I was hoping to avoid have...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Hi scottladdy, Well, we paid $7800 for the truck 6 years ago. I took a train to new mexico, and a rental car on over to arizona to pick up the truck, and drove it back to indiana. The body of the truck is in great shape, very solid, no rust. The 4 wheel drive works perfectly. We put an all...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Hi richingalveston, Ok, so even with a transmission change, it would still take more part changes to swap in a different type engine/transmission then? I kind of figured that, but wasn't sure, exactly why I wanted to ask. And of course the more parts you have to change the more cost. So I guess...

    CUCV 1986 M1008 - In a Real Pickle - Bad Heads - Need Advice

Hello All! Been a while since I have posted anything, but I am around from time to time, just been sooooo busy, just haven't had much time. But, something happened recently that made me "take some time"... my 1986 M1008 with the 6.2L diesel - 3 speed trans 4x4, blew a head gasket a couple...

Hummmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... Ok Rick, well... if you've changed 100 CUCV starters, thats about 99 more than I've done. So there may be a slight possibility you could be right...   I'll try it tomorrow (weather & time permitting) and see what happens. I may have...

    No start M1008... won't crank & burned 2 fusible links??!! - w/ pics

OK... Update Time: Today I only worked on the M1008 CUCV for a short time. Here is what I found: *The Doghead Relay under the dash, DID indeed have power coming into it. **When the key was turned to the start position, the relay engaged and the solid purple wire (which goes to the starter...

    No start M1008... won't crank & burned 2 fusible links??!! - w/ pics

Yep, I use dielectric grease on bulbs and any connector that isn't soldiered. Good stuff, stops corrosion, and seals water out. Works even better with the rubber housing military connectors like on the deuce, as the rubber housing helps keep the grease in place and last longer. Any connection...

    No start M1008... won't crank & burned 2 fusible links??!! - w/ pics

Yep, I should have mentioned that, good point. As on the stock 24/12-volt setup, the Passenger side has an Isolated Ground, correct?

    No start M1008... won't crank & burned 2 fusible links??!! - w/ pics

Yes, there was the main battery ground cable going from the buss bar to the block, the same stud as the engine ground. Is that buss bar grounded to the truck body? It looked as if it was isolated, I thought it only went to the the negative battery cables. Yep, I'd like to add a 2/0 ground to...
