Which military truck is the most capable? Good survival vehicle?

Believe it or not my deuce gets about 9 mpg on pump diesel. Seems the same light or with a load up to 2.5 ton on the highway. Also have a decent fuel leak so maybe 10 mpg is in my future. Truck is not super strong so maybe the fuel is turned down. I never messed with it. FJ Cruiser gets 19 mpg...

Which military truck is the most capable? Good survival vehicle?

In my experience with 9 x 20 duals the flat tire actually shrinks and barely touches the road. This is running unloaded of course. I ran 100 miles with an inside rear flat on a long trip before I noticed. Didn't seem to be presenting any problems I finished the trip.

Which military truck is the most capable? Good survival vehicle?

Yes when I was looking at buying these back in 2007 the FJ used driveline parts from the Landcruiser. The wealth of information they put out back then explaining everything going into these trucks was a big factor. GX470 is a great vehicle. Had a 2007 FJ ran it 115k with no issues. Traded for a...

Which military truck is the most capable? Good survival vehicle?

Toyota FJ Cruiser is very reliable and good off road if an SUV works for you. Comfortable too. Short wheelbase it is maneuverable. With a small lift I think you can get thru pretty deep snow. Expensive to buy now is the down side. Parts are readily available. Get the manual transmission AWD...

    Pulling/Rebuilding Injection Pump.... Having doubt

I don't think you need to pull the entire pump out to solve your problem. You can do the three O-Rings in the head without a whole lot of hassle. Just pull the 6 hard lines off, remove the shutoff cover, line up the red pointer, it all should come out easily. Clean it up, change the O-Rings...

    Leaking HH

Most people put the transfer in neutral, transmission in 5th, and use a bar in the jackshaft universal joints to turn the engine over. Some motors can be turned by the fan if the belts are tight and motor loose. ;)

shop that is reasonable? im in nj

You could try any heavy equipment repair outfit. They should be able to do it and get the seals. Nothing fancier about this than an excavator cylinder I would think.

    Brake Lines

Great link M37M35 thanks for finding it. Can't take credit for the diagram - it is from Peashooter. Helped me a lot.

    Brake Lines

If it's a deuce the lines from the "T" after the air pack to the front and rear are 5/16.The axle lines are 1/4". Whatever the inverted flare nut size for each of these diameters is that is what you need. I don't remember the thread. This place Fedhill has everything you need to do the job. I...

    Brake bleed advice

Could clog there I guess. I have seen some pretty nasty stuff inside the wheel cylinders I took off. Not sure where you are on this truck but it is definitely worth doing the wheel bearings, seals, brake adjustment and wheel cylinder replacement/rebuild when you get a chance. I barely had a...

    MEP002a IP plunger broken

I just figure as you did that if a plunger could be made it might be ground to the same diameter as the broken one was. Or polished carefully down to that diameter. Angled slash cut could be difficult not sure how it looks. I ask because there are so many resourceful people here someone might...

    MEP002a IP plunger broken

I have not seen one but I am curious what these plungers look like and how complicated it could be to make one.

    Cooling System Question

Yeah I had to do them as well it's a signature. Something went wrong on the transfer case output seal - of course - so have to do that one over again.

    Cooling System Question

No problem I kept filling mine up and wondering what was wrong as it would leak out. Back then the overflow line was broke off so it would come out below the neck and get sprayed all around by the fan and belts. The hole on the side cover is where it would come out and look way worse than it was...

    Brake bleed advice

I bought a 2' long piece of steel pipe from HD. Capped both ends with a reducing fitting. Added bushings down to 1/4" size and a small ball valve on each end. One end has a tee on it actually to fill it with brake fluid. Fill it up. Close with a pipe plug. Pipe in regulated air from compressor...

    Cooling System Question

Not sure when you last filled or topped off your rad. Or if you filled it in cold weather and it is warming up. These trucks seem to puke coolant until they find their happy spot. Filling mine to the top and driving it the first few times coolant leaks out from the overflow pipe. Sounds like the...
