HMMWV Hood Lift gas shock - anyone MADE one?

Well the way I do it is. Left hand grabbing the wheel well right hand grabbing to recess with my first finger grabbing below the corner top edge and "push" over to the other wheel up at about 45 degrees. Lot easier to push and lift rather than just lift. Mark

HMMWV Hood Lift gas shock - anyone MADE one?

Do people have trouble lifting the stock setup? Maybe it's just me but I have no issues lifting the hood and letting it down. I like the idea of the gas shocks and like the installs. Just how are most lifting the hood? Where are you and where are your hands. Mark

    Alternator/Generator housing broke. Repair?

If the windings saw anything above 450F say goodbye to the insulating coating on the magnet wire. With trying to braze the casing I'm sure the temp was high. It happens. Mark

    Alternator/Generator housing broke. Repair?

Yes correct. I would find another Alt and move on. Aluminum brazing requires the base metal to be heated to 1000F and lets not forget the melting point for Aluminum is around 1200F so very little room. They do have Aluminum brazing rods that have a lower base metal temp somewhere around 750F as...

    Stupid Bosch Security Screw…

In a jam I've "modified " security screws using a whizzer or a Dremel with a cutoff wheel and just cut in a slot for use with a flat screw driver. Mark

    Look what followed me home...

Very nice looking 710K. I'm very familiar with the 712M. Great trucks. Good luck and keep us posted on the progress. Mark Bow is my buddies Pinz and my M101A2

    Hard-top vs Soft Top

A word of advice. Have you soft doors zipper webbing restitched as the military stitching was not UV protected properly and WILL fail over time. One other thing grab the metal zipper tab when opening and closing the window as if you use the fabric loop it pulls on the webbing much more. Mark

NY MTV Insurance in NY - M1083A1

I know that "Commerce" ins and "Plymouth Rock" will insure our trucks but Geico won't. Mark

    Hard-top vs Soft Top

There is very little you can do to quiet down these things to any real level without changing the truck into something it's not. Most go with an intercom system for the noise. Either a Vic system or an aviation setup.. I like the hard top but the real hardtop and turret system is great but will...

    Color/paint-code identification

That color is close to mine.. I've had many people ask me what color mine is. It's a WWII Panzer green/gray with an extra shot of black. I'm a big fan of the old mono colors. Mark

    HMMWV REV truck brakes

Thank you for the correction. I was assuming it was a standard Hmmwv setup. If he has the ability to rebuild it himself or send it off to be rebuilt as it will sure save some coin in this case. Mark

    HMMWV REV truck brakes

I meant to say they came from somewhere and were not developed for the Hmnwv.

    HMMWV REV truck brakes

I did not know you had the 12k sorry. I will see what I can find for you but I have zero doubt they started out life for the 12k Hmmwv. Mark

    HMMWV REV truck brakes

Yeah looks like the caliper is frozen and needs to be replaced/rebuilt. These calipers allow for hot swapping the pads which saves a hell of a lot of time. The parts cross reference to the 1987 AMC Eagle 4x4 and will save a lot of money over the Hmmwv listed parts. The brake system for the...

Something strange: M1123 HMMWV 30kw On Board Generator Equipped Prototype 6.5L 4-speed

Oh I agree it's so much easier to just tow whatever you need and be able to leave it anywhere. I have to wonder just what was the R&D costs for this system. Mark

Alternator V-Belts rattling. Should I replace?

You don't want to put too much tension on the belts as it beats up the bearings. Rule of thumb for me is about 1 1/2ft span you want around 1/2" or there about defection and they have tools for this unless your used to doing it with your fingers. Do each belt have about the same...

Something strange: M1123 HMMWV 30kw On Board Generator Equipped Prototype 6.5L 4-speed

Not sure what rpm they would go for when running as a generator. I would guess the target rpm would be around 2200 tp 2500rpms. The hood vent and grill are designed to deflect air down into the engine bay and into the engine bay but that would not help running static under load. I think they...

Something strange: M1123 HMMWV 30kw On Board Generator Equipped Prototype 6.5L 4-speed

More pics on it on the auction site. I would guess that unit at full tilt will use at least 50 to 60hp out of the anemic NA 6.5. I would also think cooling would be a big issue with the truck static. Mark

Something strange: M1123 HMMWV 30kw On Board Generator Equipped Prototype 6.5L 4-speed

Info on this strange setup.. Unit is equipped with a 30kw 3-phase generator sandwiched between the 6.5L diesel engine and the 4-speed automatic transmission. This is believed to be one of two prototypes that were made. The generator is designed to feed a rectifier behind the passenger seat...

Something strange: M1123 HMMWV 30kw On Board Generator Equipped Prototype 6.5L 4-speed

I saw on Flebay someone is selling an M1123 with a 30kw gen mounted between the engine and transmission. Anyone have any info on this setup as I was unaware of this. Very interesting. Mark
