Was looking for a shop in or near Milwaukee to work on M1008; then did it all myself!

Well, i may be wrong, but i always did coolant change this way: drain from radiator (easiest to remove lower hose,if you have large pan); if engine have drain plugs, from there too; fill system with destilled water, run some 5 minutes; drain again; fill with proper coolant mix. But this is your...

12 year old coolant must be changed. It is not french wine. But when you drain coolant from radiator, there still left lots of it in engine. But great reading, great job!

Chevymike, it works great - maybe i expaining it wrong (sorry, english is not my language) but when i had problems with my weak vacuum pump, my oldtimer transmission repair guy advised to discard this vacuum thingy on IP (again, cant say what it is, in my language it is vaakumkorrektor :) )...

    700R4 Swap Into M1009

Ah, good to know. TH400 is in good working order, so it stays. Aux cooler and tranny temp gauge are on next list. No, i have my Eldorado, if i want quiet ride. But some insulation isnt bad thing. Thanks!

    700R4 Swap Into M1009

OK, finally got tach and installed. You guys are right - at 110kmh (68mph) by GPS rpm-s are ca. 2150. Noise is high but seems that this can be reduced with hood and firewall insulation. And my old BFG KO-s are not quietest tires also. Tried to swap air filter opening to drivers side, as...

    700R4 Swap Into M1009

I do not doubt your words. Lets see, what tach shows when it arrives. To my ear engine rpm´s are too high, bad ears probably. At the same time i located ´91 small Blazer (gas engine, TH700 and 4WD, so NP241?). Cheap, as it is rust bucket. So if needed, i have tranny and transfer case. And...

    700R4 Swap Into M1009

Hey, why so grumpy? I am grateful for the suggestions, they are big help and valuable information for me. That i´m not concerned about hills or loads, well this is my problem. Another problem is, that we dont have here partsyards as you have there and to find parts for TH700 swap is almost...

    700R4 Swap Into M1009

No, i dont have tachometer, rpms measured "by ear" - probably not best way of course. Estonia is flat and ca 50 metres from sea level everywhere so no driving problems. Only two "real" mountains :) And i usually dont carry anything heavy. What i found - without roof truck runs way better, it is...

    700R4 Swap Into M1009

Thanks, good hint about driveshaft, will measure it tomorrow. If angle will be too big, i probably can use double u-joint shaft, like on my ´74 Cherokee front driveshaft. Will be weaker but this is first thing that come to my mind. :)

    700R4 Swap Into M1009

Thanks for reply Mike! Yes, i dont assume modern truck feel, just lower rpm on tarmac. If your M1010 have 4.56:1 ratio, then i can probably see with my 3.08:1 rpms close to raceptable 1800ish with 65mph speeds. This is good. On offroad, is OD unit will be safe, i.e. not hanging too low or...
