What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Made another run to the landfill with a load of brush and yard waste. I only comment on it because it's one of the few times that I've actually been on an open road where I could get the truck up to maximum speed and RPM's for a reasonable period of time and get to climb some minor grades. I'm...

    Resurrecting 816

Fastruck: Thanks for that knowledge about the hand throttle behavior on the cargo trucks. Mine also ramps up to full throttle and I thought this was incorrect behavior.

What did you do to your deuce this week?

There's also a spray that is easy and convenient. Sometimes also seen in a yellow can. It turns pink to indicate the presence of acid but also neutralizes the acid. https://www.autozone.com/test-scan-and-specialty-tools/battery-cleaner/crc-battery-cleaner-7-5oz/222535_0_0

What did you do to your deuce this week?

It corroded away. Gotta keep up with the Vaseline or battery post goop from NAPA.

This is on my winter "to-do" list. Good thread.

Post up those Point of View hood shots!

You are sick, sick, sick. I can't imagine driving though NYC in my truck. All the horns and hate from being so slow... oh my. You're a tougher man than I.

    Simp's M915A1 Build Thread

Do those mirrors negate the need for the small, round wide-angle mirror that usually pairs with the west coast mirror?

Put new style LED's on my M923 but...

It makes sense. It changes the impedance in the entire circuit but of course, you lose the ability to know if your signals are operating without getting out of the vehicle. It is possible that replacing the BA9s incandescent bulb in the turn signal lever with a BA9 green LED, that you can have...

    help with m813 exhaust

At least there's a muffler in that configuration. Your neighbors and ears will thank you.

    help with m813 exhaust

You're talking about eliminating the muffler altogether then? These trucks are LOUD already. I definitely wouldn't drive it without hearing protection if you do. The output flange on my muffler has broken off. I'll be replacing the muffler and sticking with the stock configuration and that's...

    Weight of Deuce parts

I recently bought a rebuilt transfer case mounted in the lower half of a shipping can for my M813. In total, it weighed 1,000 lbs. I think Wes said a T138 transfer by itself weighs 644 lbs. A friend told me the shipping can weighs around 300 lbs.

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

It's stunning that conditions are so dry that striking a steel tent stake or a snapping winch cable can start a large fire. :( Now that I've serviced the front axle, I'm feeling really good about my truck. Took it for a nice drive on Vet's Day, complete with flags mounted on the mirrors and...

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

Blah, blah blah. More photos. This thread is mainly to help folks with the older 5 tons and clear up some differences between TM's and Youtube. I saw a guy pull a front drum on Youtube and his inner seal and bearing remained on the spindle when he pulled the drum. This was on a 939 series truck...

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

Finished up the driver's side yesterday. The driver's side was in even better condition. The grease was still in solid form and plenty of it. Frankly, the only reason I cleaned and re-greased everything was just to get it all on the same maintenance schedule. No axle tube leaks, no corrosion...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

The trees don't get cut down to harvest the nuts. A front-end loader with a special arm attaches to the tree and vibrates the h--- out of it, shaking the nuts free. Edit: Ok, not a front loader, but you get the idea: https://youtu.be/nahFysX0X4I?t=135

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

Well, the new tool broke the final lug nut free in seconds. I did crank on it a few times and had a moment of concern as the tension built up but it let loose with a good bang and puff of rusty dust. I did check beforehand, and it's the proper stud. No infiltrators. ;) The tool is definitely...

M809 Series- Front axle work and what to expect

Good point, I should have had some spare studs and nuts on hand. Fortunately, everything had gone smoothly and without damage...up to the point of this one, stuck nut. Thanks for the product endorsement, it makes me feel confident that I'll have that nut removed by this afternoon. It's...
