I'm forming up the list of belts, fluids, , hoses, filters etc. to perform deferred maintenance on an M813.
I'm new to buying such large quantities of fluids. When buying in bulk like this, do you guys have any preferred vendors (especially engine oil)?
It would seem that strolling into the...
The New Whip
Ok, I did it. I was as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs, but with help from folks here, I've chosen my ride.
The seller was great. He was patient and went through my checklist with no problems. Everything big and important on the truck is in good working order...
Hm, I didn't even consider that I might have summer blend still in the tank. Good points, and thanks for the advice.
Assuming the sale goes through on the truck I'm considering, I expect to exercise it at least bi-weekly so hopefully I would run through all the summer fuel.
Wow, how unusual. My understanding is that the M809 series and the 900 series have more or less the same engine. Is the M809 series water pump also this way?
Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning, it absorbs moisture. In hard braking applications, the water in the fluid boils, which causes fading.
I especially distrust old brake fluid stored in plastic containers because plastic is not an oxygen barrier. I know it sucks, but I would discard it.
Truck has clear, normal state title.
I'm withholding pictures for a moment, but I'll comment on the truck.

General question, but insight from Marylanders would be appreciated.
Do you guys experience fuel turning to gel during the winter? Do you put an additive in your fuel or mix kerosene or something else? Do your local fuel stations sell a "winter blend" of diesel?
Maryland isn't the coldest...
I viewed a 5 ton that I like, yesterday. Needs a little work, but seems like a solid foundation to begin on.
Next step is have the seller take me for a short test drive to check out a few things before I hand over the cash.
Awesome replies, guys. Many thanks.
As someone said, it's not fear, it's respect. I respect the fact that I have zero experience with this and that it's something that I shouldn't try to tackle alone, on the first try. Someone local has PM'd me with an offer of assistance, so that's great. I've...
So today, I learned about split ring wheels. A co-worker treated me to Youtube videos of actual human beings being killed by exploding tires. Gruesome.
As I peruse photos of many 2.5 and 5 ton trucks, I see the split ring on the wheels. My understanding, is that nowadays, you put the whole...
LOL...ahhhh. I've really been on the fence about this truck and posts like this reinforce my concerns. I'll keep this M211 opportunity in my back pocket and keep shopping for awhile. It'll probably still be available if I want it.
Just a quick and easy question-
I see the Sticky post for the G749 Parts List, which is great but that doesn't mean that these parts are readily available. What is parts availability like for these vehicles?
The M211 often came with the automatic transmission and that freaks me out a little...
Whether $100/hr or $2.25/mile, it works out about the same. I'm looking at around 75 miles. I noticed that Eastern Surplus & Equipt. received several positive comments from forum members. I saw a few trucks in their inventory that interested me.
I don't think I love any of these trucks enough...
