When I was in service we hauled fist vs on either 172 or m 260 trailers without problem . However m 872 or m 127s did not work well. You could haul 2ea m 113s on a m 872 trailer but fist v and TOW carriers were too high.
Are you prepared to deal with Alaska winters, a diesel engine, gelled fuel etc ? Can you drive a manual transmission ? With any military vehicle the grease gun is your friend. Grease is cheap parts are expensive. Get all the pubs for this and read them. Do you know how to turn the lights on in...
When m52 tractors were in vogue there was a maintenance memo not to use them with 34t M872 trailers because of lack of air capacity. These have the same air pump as a m35. m818s were authorized as they have a bigger air pump. Reservoirs are the same between a m52 and a m818.
I recall when they were new in 1977 they were pained solid 383 green with no aircraft stars etc. Units added additional camo colors depending on their environment.
With any mv the grease gun I your friend. Get and read the reading: TMS, LO, especially -10 and -20 pubs for whatever you get. Have a M37 here and any trip overtr 3 mies in good weather can turn into an endurance contest which the truck usually wins.
In the enchanted land of New Jersey (and elsewhere I imagine) the threshold for CDL is 26000# gross weight, not empty weight. A 809 series truck is above the rate. If you can claim in your state that it is a "recreational" like a motor home, may be you can escape the CDL requirement. Problem...
10 tons used with M747 trailer typically have 2ea winches and you have to double up to load a dead tank. Trailer tires require special tools to mount them. Check applicable tm's special tool list for pictures of them. The grease gun is your friend. The most important grease fitting on the truck...
Remember to wheels on the driver's side have left handed threads- righty loosey, lefty tighty. the lug nuts on either side turn toward the rear of the truck to loosen. Try putting a socket and breaker bar on one and have soldier a turn it to loosen while soldier b hits the socket from the side...
Mack ENDTt 673 weighs less than a NH250 and are easier to start in cold weather. You didn't say what chassis you have but my experience in the service was that a M52A1 with an overdrive transmission would run faster than a M818 with a NH250 and out pull a M52A2 with a Continental.
The grease gun is your friend. Grease is cheap. Parts are expensive. Get a lubrication order and follow religiously. Some grease points may have well be neglected by various military operators and organizational maintenance types especially the hard to reach ones.
vehicle is 96" wide, will nt fit in a standard freight container which has an interior width of less than 96". On a flat rack mirrors and any thing else that hangs out past 96" would have to be removed. I think containers with an exterior width of 102" may be available and vehicle would probably...
difference is in plumbing on engine; fire apparatus have auxiliary cooling capabilities so the engine does not overheat when standing still and pumping.
Don't forget to check the power steering reservoir on the engine. This takes OE10 and if it seizes you will remember it. check drive shaft flange bolts on the shaft between transmission and transfer case for tightness. This shaft is the most troublesome on the truck.
