That filter is there JIC there is an internal pump failure. It filters backwards, inside-out, and has a magnet in it to stop any crap the pump internals puke out in case of a failure so they do not make it to the injectors. It is NOT a required maintenance item. Unless the go juice in the truck...

If you STOP the reason for the corrosion, put good antifreeze in it, it SHOULD prevent the rest from leaking. If you flush it, the flush....if a chem flush is used, might dislodge any rust on the remaining plugs and you'll spring another leak. There are more plugs in the block.

You can make it re-using your old fittings. Notice the hose is not crimped, those are push on type connections to the fittings, the hose can be cut off and re used. You need to find a commercial hose shop and get some push on hose. If you take the hose you have, most will be happy to fix you up...
