Helped a gentleman whose car slid into a ditch

Thanks for taking the time to Care about another Traveler. I always thought that there is no way to pull, drag, hook onto the aluminum rims without destroying them. They are really pretty handy to strap to and recover all types of vehicles.

    Cold Weather and CUCV's

A lot of sage advice posted. My 1008A1 starts better than my civi truck. And I maintain both well, overkill. Really if I plan to use the 82' truck and it is below 10 to 15 degrees I will plug in block heater on civi truck. In the winter I use 10w30 Shell Rotella motor oil. I believe that the...

    Caterpillar 3116

Welcome to Steel Soldiers! NEH3116, What is it that you are trying to accomplish? I have one that was on a CUCV lower hose. It worked fine for an alternate location as simp5782 has posted. Are you doing a transplant into another vehicle? How about pictures, have any of the 3116?

Need a tractor that can pull a semi trailer for movie

I am going with the same thoughts as ColdWarrior. If the movie is going to be a remake, new concept or whatever lets wait till we can see the final outcome. I myself want to see a positive result no matter the storyline. When I was a youngin growing up, X15 was for me just awesome. Space...

    9.00 X16 tires

I have used 9x16 Super Swamper TSL's on older Power Wagons in the past with great off road use. On the hard road they will not last long. Soft compound will scrub away in no time. New 9x16 NDT's are still made. And I have seen NDT's on CL now and then.

Power loss on hills and above 35 MPH

edpdx, has the truck been smoking blue, white, or black smoke?

Power loss on hills and above 35 MPH

Fuel pump push rods do fail. I have seen one 6.2 diesel broken in 37 years, not likely but possible. But the cam eccentric can be worn down also to the point of no lever action. And the end of the rod can be scrubbed, but also a rare occurrence. That is another great reason to start all...

Power loss on hills and above 35 MPH

5 Micron filters are good but 1 micron sure does help cut down on injection pump issues. My 82' civi has a 5 and 1 micron factory filters. The 5 has a water separator on bottom of filter and drain petcock. Every now and then I will check fuel in jar for water. Buying fuel at a good fuel station...

Power loss on hills and above 35 MPH

Any and all "rubber" hoses are suspect. Collapsed hose is also possible. Any air in the gage and gage will not read correctly, at all. That spot is for air to bleed. When changing fuel filters, inspection of filter by pouring contents in to clear glass jar, do not close any glass vessel with...

    Generator removal question

Most times after taking the generator off and it gets kicked, dropped, pushed around shop when it worked before but now it doesn't, the brushes pick up dirt, rust, oil, grit from wear and tear. The brushes get glazed and the commutator can not make contact, or the grooves need cleaning, the...

Where do you draw the line $$$

I agree with TOBASH. Brake cleaner has its uses, but PB Blaster works for degrading rust. And helps with disassembly. Brake cleaner does clean, but rust forms the second that it dries out. Some will agree, disagree but diesel fuel works for me for cleaning parts.

    M38 1952 Lead paint?

Welcome to the Forum. No concern at all. Why be concerned? Great surface wear properties. If you sand the paint wear a respirator. If you are welding on or burning off paint, do not breath.

    Engine knocking LDS-456

The only other thing I thought and not easy to check would be a bad wrist pin.

    Resurrecting Oily Brake Shoes

Let me ask this question. Is it worth your time and labor to take a chance on if it will work, and for how long? If it does not work then you are doing the job twice.

    Engine knocking LDS-456

Hello Oerthedge21, I have read this thread many times. I am going to throw out some thoughts, here goes. Has the frequency of the noise changed? Louder or softer, the same since engine work? You stated in post 210 that the ticking was louder in the cab. Have you checked the bell housing...
