I tried two different spring compressors.. One from Amazon that is the scissor type that didn't have enough travel to compress the spring, and one I bought from an auto parts place that was an Overhead spring compressor. The issue with that one was it was really for cars as it was too wide to...
So I got the springs off and it looks to me like the exhaust valve seal definitely had a problem unless I'm missing something?
The seal just tore apart into little piece and stuck to the valve hole.
How much of this should be scraped away (it's like bonded to the metal)? Don't want to...
What spring compressor are you guys using on the valve springs in these little engines? The one I have doesn't really don't fit and have no travel left to compress.
Thanks, I've changed valve seals on a car many years ago so I'll give the seals and a new exhaust rocker arm a try. I need to measure the shaft the rocker rides on to see if it is still in tolerance to confirm. Need to read up on the ring replacements and get a little smarter on the steps...
So I pulled the head off.. What a pain getting the exhaust off.. There has to be an easier way to get to those two bolts on the exhaust bracket on back of engine.
Pics below..
Center part on piston looked wet in the center but seemed more like shiny carbon buildup.
I did adjust the...
Hi - Does anybody know the thickness of item #6 in the picture. I have a fuel injector missing parts 6 & 7 in the pic and I guess there are different thicknesses of the shim washer. I thought 6 & 7 might have fallen off when I took it out but I can't find them in the bottom of the enclosure...
Hi - I picked up a pair of NATO Slave connectors and 10 feet of 2/0 wire to build a better battery jumper for my MEP-831A. There are O-Rings that came with the connectors when I opened them up. Anybody know if these are supposed to just slide over the lugs before tightening them down or...
From the bottom dip stick. I wondered since the unit had been drained of oil/fuel when I got it if someone put oil in the top thinking it was for long term storage benefit and maybe that is what is going on?
I was thinking based on 2bfeet recommendations, I'd try the following to see if I get...
I thought it looked like oil too with the amount of smoke. I let it run and there is so much smoke that I shut it down - doesn't seem to clear up. Would a bad fuel injector pump cause this type of issue (dumping too much fuel)? I wouldn't expect this level of heavy smoke though?
Hi -
Hoping you guys can share any insights. I picked this up through GP and just got around to trying to start it. It had been drained of all fluids so I PM'd it and went to try and start. It fired up, however, there was massive smoke flowing out of the exhaust. I also noticed the...
Thanks! I'll unhook and check continuity between N-G to confirm. I was thinking of putting a switch in place to be able to toggle when I need it bonded (stand alone) and then when I don't (connected to home). Assuming just a SPST switch rated at 240V should work.?
Hi - I looked in the manual but didn't see reference to a removable neutral/ground bar like the 802A/803A's have if you want to hook up to a home with a disconnect. From what I read code requires only one place where neutral/ground is bonded and that is generally in the existing panel. The...
I took the bag inlet and ring off my MEP-803A and drew up a simple mount for to hold a Hubble 50A receptacle. First 3D printed with ABS at 80% infill. Felt sturdy and lined up no problem. I do some hobby machining and used a piece of 6061 and milled the same part. Both seem like they would...
Update.. I put a multimeter on the OP sensor and checked continuity per the TM and it tested ok. I started looking at the governor actuator arm and realized I hadn't tightened the nuts on the rod and it had spun up 3/4 of an inch form the bottom threads. Readjusted and locked nuts in place and...
Thanks a lot! Appreciate the detailed info! I'm trying to break this down in to smaller bites and step through to isolate. I noticed when I took a wire off the OP switch the magnet engaged and the engine stopped but K12 didn't have an LED on indicating it had been energized or a fault sent...
Yep, two wires on OP switch. I took 1 of 2 wires off and started engine. No low OP fault but actuator arm went back to magnet and turned off. Restarted and manually moved throttle/actuator arm which then resulted in overload/short fault. Starting to think this has more problems going on...
Well.. got the fuel IP back installed and bled the system. It fired right up! :). Of course, it can't be that simple.. At first I got an Overload/Short fault light come on and the engine turned off. I restarted and got a low oil sensor light and it turned off. I changed the oil, checked...
You guys were spot on!! Couple hours in the carb soak and was able to get the spring off with a little work. Plunger was definitely pushed up and took some light tapping to remove. I put it back in the soak to sit for another hour or so. What about that paper gasket? Reusable or permeated...
Thanks, I'll give that a try and see if I can get it loose. It's really tight but maybe break through with some soaking. One thing about this whole process is I now know a lot more about how this thing works! :). Still waiting to hear it start but I think I'm getting closer.. Will post...
