I have 1600s on mine and the power is more than adequate, but where I live is as flat as a pancake. If you have hills you will want to go with a shorter tire.
They're fender extentions made out of metal to cover the tire tread and keep the police from having a reason to pull me over. Same reason for the rear bumper, mud flaps, and ID lights on the headache rack and rear bumper. Just trying to make the truck more DOT compliant, thus more enjoyable if...
I'm running 80 lbs pressure in the 1600 tires on my M818. I don't haul or tow anything with it. Has anyone played around with lower pressures to achieve a softer ride on-road?
What about offroad? Do any of you guys air down when you leave the highway and hit the dirt?
Thanks.
Flyingvan911: that H1 is in beautiful shape, or it was until he swamped it towards the end of the video. It's surprising how much water seeped in through the door gaskets in such short time. He'll get it all cleaned up though.

I finally had a chance to go play with my M818 yesterday. It was my first time testing it's off-road capabilities. I didn't do anything crazy but let's just say I'm very pleased with how it performed. It was a really fun day.
Here's some video that my passenger took......

So true. My M818 had a 2006 military overhaul and only had 1150 miles on the odometer when I picked it up. Everything on this truck is like brand new and works flawlessly. I paid $7,500, plus another $1,800 for the tires and wheels. When I think about what else I might have spent that money...
I finally had a chance to get all three trucks together in one shot. I'm still missing my Suzuki Samurai rockcrawler which is torn down for a complete rebuild right now. That one would obviously get parked at the left of this photo and be labelled as 'puny'.:D
I love how the M818 dwarfs a...
All good information guys. Thank you for the help.
So it looks like I'm OK to run these for awhile. I want to eventually get my hands on some later-model 2-piece HEMTT wheels but there doesn't appear to be any rush.
I bought all six Michelin XZL 1600s for my M818 from a guy in Wisconsin. They were already mounted on the wheels pictured below. He delivered them to Andy (army6x6) in Owatonna, MN where they were installed on my truck before I picked it up and drove it home.
Can someone look at the pic and...
Bought my M818 a little over a year ago and had to do a few mods to get it D.O.T. compliant and keep the local popo off my back. I parked it in storage last August and didn't have time to think about it again until now. I went to the storage compound on Friday and put in the freshly charged...
The height of my clutch pedal seems to be fine but I find the brake pedal to be high compared to the throttle pedal. Makes it difficult sometimes if I need to stop quickly.
A smaller diameter steering wheel would be nice mod however.
