Good to know. I’ll have to figure out how to check the trans sooner than putting a different motor in. Maybe it did let go.
Also got the pistons out. There is some scuffing but I believe it’s from eating pieces of metal when the motor started to blow apart. There are small fragments of metal...
Hmm. Interesting thought. I've never noticed vibration issues but that doesn't mean much necessarily. I used the same flex plate that came with the 700r4 for the 6.2 which supposedly is fine. But at this point who knows. Maybe it wasn't balanced correctly. I appreciate the insight.
I was idling at the camp for a few minutes before hitting the road, another 1-2 mins on the road before the hill, so it should've been warmed up enough.
I did talk to both Leroy Diesel and Quadstar Tuning (turbo supplier). Leroy stated GEP doesn't offer a warrantee so he doesn't either, and I...
Yeah me too. I haven't decided yet, it may just end up being a older used 6.2 just to get it running.
Question- am I correct in my evaluation that the head gasket did not fail? Granted I know nothing can be completely confirmed just by looking at pictures, but that there does not appear to be...
Got it through Leroy Diesel who orders it new through the GEP plant in Franklin Ohio. Picked it up there myself.
I’ll give them a call tomorrow, there isn’t a warrantee on the motor unless I paid an extra $1k or something like that for 1 year. Seemed unnecessary at the time but I guess not now...
Any specific way I could check? I have the torque converter off and the input shaft looks and feels to be fine, not sure how much it’ll help pulling the pan but I could do that too. Just not sure what else to check being without a motor and not wanting to completely disassemble that too.
The...
Yeah definitely no noticeable change in power, only that slight noise. When the motor/injectors were new I believe I briefly had a stuck injector (or potentially a last bubble of air working itself out) and that was much more noticeable sounding.
I was wondering about that valve mark as well. There aren't any lock washers I'm aware of on the motor or turbo, especially ones that would have the potential from getting inside. On piston #7 there is a section on the lower left that seems to me “missing” the soot with some red color which...
Well this is no longer a head gasket recovery thread, now is a what the h*ll happened thread as the motor has been destroyed. I got the motor pulled and somewhat disassembled and looks essentially like a bomb went off.
Cylinder 5 connecting rod is blown apart. Piston is cocked in the cylinder...
Sh*t hit the fan today on my way back from a weekend camping trip and I blew a head gasket.
I was climbing a decent hill (but not the steepest/longest I encountered) on the trip home and noticed what sounded like a very minor exhaust leak. This even started before I got to the hill and was...
Makes sense, great video. A little bit of work then to switch sides but not a big deal. And then the engine/trans cooler lines don't each have to cross sides like they do now. Probably would help transmission temperatures too since the fluid would go through the "cool" side of the radiator.
Awesome, great to know! Did you end up mounting it on the drivers side then?
I have a pretty large secondary trans fluid cooler there (mounting has slightly changed from this pic but it is more or less in a similar position) so just wondering if it’ll still fit there or if I’ll have to do some...
I’ve been tossing around the idea of a separate engine oil cooler and had a few questions:
For those that have done it, did you still run the oil through the radiator first or bypass that and just do the standalone separate cooler? And if you did the standalone, what did you use/how did you...
