Yes, I had to notch the bottom of the plate about a 1/2" x 4" to get the receiver to lay flat. Also, the pintle hitch shaft will not be long enough to get the castle nut back on. I've read where you can remove the grease ring to get it to thread on enough to get the cotter pin through...
Has anyone mounted the WKS X-Doors to a HMMWV with a Helmet Hardtop? I believe I heard a rumor that the x-doors don't fit the door profile of the helmet hardtops? That may or may not be true...Just looking to see if anyone has mounted these with this setup.
I'm comparing it to my M1097A2 with a tach. It idles at 650ish. Sounds normal. My R1 sounds way faster. I'll invest in a cheap photo tach and go from there.
My rig seems to idle high (too fast). I've followed all the advice I've received so far and nothing changes...still fast idle. I took a look at what IP I have installed currently. Looks to be a DB2381-5485, part# 12561514. From the research I've done, that IP belongs in a 6.5 turbo (98-00...
I've never messed with driveshafts before, so please excuse my ignorance for this question. Is the indexing fairly self explanatory, or is there a "trick" to make sure I don't screw it up?
My driveshaft has balance weights on it too, I'm just wondering if it's worth while to have the balance...
If I'm replacing the driveshaft hangar bearing, and have to drop, remove the driveshaft, is it necessary/recommended/worth while to have the drive shaft balanced?
I checked for rubbing...It's clear. Sound was happening before the fill-up anyways. I do enjoy being able to get on the creeper and access the entire underbelly of this beast!
OK, I grabbed a hold of the front driveshaft and it does have a slight bit of movement around the hanger bearing and the U-Joint at the diff. I'm not sure how much is too much, but I suspect I have too much play. I'll check the rear driveshaft tonight...hopefully...unless the wife has other...
Welcome! You've come to the right place for advice on your HMMWV and, I'm sure an excellent source for Marine Corp jokes as well! 😀
I recently picked up an M1097A2 with helmet top. Slightly different than my 1097R1. I love them both! Def wanna see pics!
No abnormal body vibrations that I noticed. Steering seemed VERY responsive, but no shimmy or shaking. The tires are suspect as they're not the best...Sound seemed to come from under the vehicle from what I recall. I have 1 spare tire I might try to rotate around to see if that "cures" the...
Another update on the new project. Parts I've replaced so far are as follows. Front brake rotors and pads, radiator, steering gearbox, splash shields around the radiator, batteries. After replacing the radiator and letting her get to temp, I started looking for any additional leaks...Didn't...
Excellent! What kind of battery charger did you use? I tried the same with mine but both ended up having shorted cells so in the end I had to replace them.
Thanks. It was desert tan CARC painted by a 3 year old at the depot when I got it. I sanded it down, primed bare spots and did the lizard coating first then applied the raptor Liner on top of it. Turned put nice! Did it in my driveway. Not perfect, but pretty damn nice...everyone comments...
