New MV Owner 1989 LMTV m1079

Agree with GeneralDosorder, ditch the Michelins. The sidewalls crack and leak. Good videos out there on changing the tires. Welcome, and good luck.

FMTV CTIS Wheel Valve Assembly Rebuild How-to

Could also discard the rim valve stem and make a new line that goes from the rim directly to the CTIS wheel valve.

FMTV CTIS Wheel Valve Assembly Rebuild How-to

I was thinking along these same lines. It just needs to fit the valve stem threads, make a right angle, and connect to the CTIS wheel valve. Making one might be easier than finding one. Thinking about wandering around Afghanistan with an adjustable wrench...

FMTV CTIS Wheel Valve Assembly Rebuild How-to

Thanks Colt! I'm working on this right now. Do you have a source for the brass right angle and the adapter on the short hose? I can find the part numbers in the TM's, but I can't seem to find the actual parts for sale on-line.

How do you make a LMTV NOT suck in the snow?

My understanding is that automatic tire chains are useful on regular roads while traveling at speed. Not sure how well they would perform off-road, on driveways, plowing, start/stop/reverse, and other ranch tasks.

If you rescue someone with your truck in the snow this week, please do a video

Tractor stuck for 3 days 150 feet off a gravel road, down an embankment, at the edge of a pond. M1078 self-recovery winch easily pulled the tractor up the hill and out.

I thought it was 1 picture and that's it. Kinda assumed it was cheating to lobby for votes.

MV of the Month February 2023

I'll put mine in the competition! 1998 M1078 Cold weather modified for winter with tire chains, block heater, battery tender, and battery warmers. Nearly 4 miles to a paved road, so a good plow is essential. Hat tip to @NEILSWORLD Endless Adventures for the videos on plowing and tire chains.

What to look out for when buying an LMTV

I've only had mine for 6 months, but it has been a good experience. I bought mine from a friend, so I knew its history and maintenance. He had it for 3 years and bought it from a high end truck enthusiast that restored it from auction and got everything working well. I'm an engineer, not a...

    Tire talk

Had a good experience with CSM Army Tires. Bought 4 Goodyear 395/85R20's. Talked to Phillip and asked for newest tires with no cracks in sidewalls. He understood what I was concerned about. Very happy with what was delivered.

Starting an LMTV in the cold is like

3 weeks ago it was -30F here in Montana. Luckily I installed a Zerostart block heater and a ruggedized Battery Tender over Thanksgiving. It started no problem.
