I have had collapsed hoses for no other reason then age, but, that doesn't cause a front hub to get hot to the touch. Usually thats bearings, grease, or over tight hub nuts.
Many expedient fixes date way back to the earliest vehicles and most are workable today, just a few I've used:

On my M 101 its 3 3/16's and on my M 416 its a bit smaller by a 1/8.
Depends on which company manufactured them and what year but as a rule of thumb their all about the same.
Just a FYI and probably something you all ready know, the 101 is different then a 416's in how its made and shouldn't...
I bought a great air tool with multiple heads for installing nutserts on ebay. Well worth the $150, but I use it alot too.
IMHO, stay away from the manual type install tools. They don't seem to tighten down enough and the nutsert will work lose in a short amount of time.
