The reason I bobbed my long bed was to get rid of the overhang in the rear. If you switch to a shortbed I'm pretty sure you will have to take a piece out of the frame in front of the rear axle as well as shorten the frame behind the rear axle.
Then you would need to shorten your brake lines and...
I've never used it in a recovery situation. It's a 2 speed winch and after I plumbed in the cooler I parked it on a downhill grade and tied onto an REA pole, unspooled it then sucked it back in to get the line snug on the spool. I switched around from high to low and it was at a dead idle in...
I just did the crossover, 2wd box, & highsteer about a month ago it steered great but after the detroit in the 60 its a little hard steering again with it in 4x4, I guess it never ends.
I'm not sure if I'll go any farther with it or not I suppose I could tap the box & hydra assist it but I've...
Plumbed in a cooler for my p/s system since it also pulls double duty running the winch. Also detroited the front 60 WOW! Here are some pics of a little test run monday afternoon!
We just swapped out a front posi on a M1028 for a detroit. When you got the posi in a bind it would slip, pretty aggravating when you have to bump an obstacle you should be able to crawl.
I would not waste the $ on the 10 bolt with 3.08s, like others have mentioned find some 1008 or 1028 axles...
I got around to doing this today, may have made a small difference but not much. It took a couple blasts of carb cleaner to get it to pass through and I could barely see light through it before.
Next time I feel ambitious I will probably turn up the pump & see what that does for it.
Update!
Detroit installed in the front 60. It was kind of a hard choice to swap out a posi for a detroit as it worked well about 95% of the time but when you really got it bound up one side would slip giving 3 wd instead of 4. Also put on a pair of ruffstuff diff covers. Heavy duty 3/8...
Got out & wheeled the CUCV a little sunday afternoon. Me, two of my boys, and the wife. We were only out a couple hours but it was a good time even if short. Not exactly Moab just some land of my dad's close to town with a few rocks on it! The one dark pic is the little guy (11) driving home...
I agree with you south101 says it's a $15 deal then rattles off a list of other stuff you will need plus programming and the equipment, software and the know how to do it.
Several posts ago I basically challenged these guys who have a problem with the price to tell me what they think a fair...
Like I said go buy an M1031 and your $15 gizmo, make it work then you have my attention and respect. Till then you are the blowhard going from not knowing what it is to being the relative expert in 8 days. Anyone with your superior education, attitude, & expertise can probably DRAW one up but...
