RE: 4x4ing the duece?
So is there a consensus about using M105 Springs, hangers, etc versus a set of springs and mounts from a donor duce. I have/own both options but am not sure about which would be a better way to go. I’m thinking that the 105 parts would attach to the axle further out...
I while back a spoke to the guy that runs ALFA HEAVEN INC and he runs the 135 style axles in truck/tractor pull competitions (I think). He says that the 135 axles are far stronger. I'm not sure exactly why, so you might want to give him a call.
I can't seem to loose weight and have air assist steering on my duce. So is it a sure thing that another smaller wheel will fit? Off of what, exactly? Any issues with the horn? How much will this cost? Fat people want to know. :)
I'm on the cusp of bobbing my duce and putting the oversized wheels/tires on it. (I know the 395s would be a better choice , but I already have the 14.00s) I'm getting an uneasy feeling that with the additional rotating mass and one less set of axles, the braking would be marginal. Please tell...
For all you engineering types. There is a offroad webpage,
http://www.landroverclub.net/Club/HTML/Winch_choice.htm
that talks a little about different winch types and at the end of the page goes into a little detail about a DIY project. Let me quote part of the article.

RE: Rear springs and all associated parts for a duce....
Maybe he needs a M151 power plant with radiator & transmission or a hummer front end... those are going cheep, too.
RE: Rear springs and all associated parts for a duce....
Send him my way... but it might be too long of a drive unless someone is going through Omaha.

I purchased a complete rear assembly, carefully cut at the frame... wheels, axles, springs, rods, etc. I'm just keeping the wheels and axles. If anyone wanted the other parts, they can have them for just the per pound price of the steel. I hate taking something to the scales if someone else can...
Thanks for the input/comments, guys.
I did post the same question in the coloradok5/grarage forum (thanks to cut and paste). I had a far better and seemingly more cerebral response from this group... that should be taken as a complement to you all. I will soon find out if the cross members are...

The goal was to put the 350, TH400,NP208 into the M1009. I don't have the original M1009 crossmember... but have the one from the donor Blazer (350, 700R4, NP241 set-up). Unfortunately the 700R4 was traded off in another swap. I suppose I can go to a Chevy dealer and see if their parts...
I bought the Suburban... now I have to find a way to justify it to my wife, or hide the financial transaction and vehical from her. This might be the last time I post for a while... :(
I’m in the midst of putting together a M1009 that I got without an engine, transmission or transfer. I now have the original TH400 and NP208 from another M1009. I also purchased an “organ donor” Blazer that came with a SB 350, 700R4 and NP241. My question is can I use the transmission support...
Hi All,
I have a 85 M1009 (TH400 and NP208) with about 35000 miles and no engine. The diesel engine was pulled before I got it. I want to keep the stock TH400/NP208 in the unit.
I bought an 88/89 350 blazer with a 700r4 and NP241(I think) to use as an organ donor. The electrical, cooling, and...
Please let Bjorn know that if he were coming up through Omaha we would be honored to offer him hospitality, a place to stay, shop space to work on his truck, a place to store his truck until he could make arrangements, etc. I have a tremendous amount of admiration for his engineering like...
Front leaf springs...
About a little over a year ago I came across at least 40 NOS front springs from a duce, I think, at a local truck used parts store. The store in Omaha is C&H truck parts, 402-731-3420, ask for Jerry. They might have shipped their stock to the the Sioux City branch, but...
So I’m working toward bobbing a duce and putting 1400R 20 tires on it. I have the tires, (5 more Michelins than I need… hint) and found some 10x20 combat rims. Unfortunately the rims are set up for the 10 lug 5 ton. Are there such things as a 6 lug to 10 lug adapter/spacer? Is it even a...
I recently purchased twelve 20 inch tires in a lot. This included 5 Michelin X 1400R 20 XL and 7 Goodyear AT-2A 1400R 20s. I want to bob my duce and make a mean looking big pick-up out of it. I have been slowly accumulating the M105 trailer and other parts necessary for the project. My...
