Just hold the black probe on some bare metal or bolt which should be grounded and you can probe all day long with the red probe and not hurt anything as long you have the meter on "volts" and you only touch one piece of metal with the red probe at a time.
I had electrical gremlins on my truck...
heater core
The heater core I got from LMC was aluminum, and the vents where air passes through were much smaller than the original copper core. Also, I had to bend the hold down brackets to get them to work with the LMC heater core. Not sure where you could get a good old one like they came...
I remember being in the Army and visiting the Kaiserslautern AF mess hall. They had revolving desert trays! A big glass case full of different pies and cakes and you could leave your trays on your table and someone was paid to pick it up! Needless to say my buddies and I made many more visits...
Hi Everyone, my charging problem and Gen 1 light not coming on was resolved in a different thread. Thanks to help from Warthog and others, I located a corroded ground on my Gen 1 alternator, sanded it, applied dielectric grease and life is good.
Thanks to everyone.
By the way, I can't...
Warthog, because of your post I rechecked the voltages on the wires while the alternator was out.
12V on Big Red Wire
12V on little brown exciter wire
12V on little red wire
Then I checked resistance from ground connector to engine and radiator....well there was connectivity, but there was...
I replaced the passenger side alternator because it tested bad. The back battery has 14.5 volts across it when running, so it should be good. I'm not so sure the guy grounded to the terminal instead of the case when he tested it, but either way it is working.
The driver side alternator is...
You are right, I see it now on F-9. I miss having a printed manual. Digging through the pdf seems more difficult to me. I have printed out several wiring diagrams, but mainly for the charging system since thats what I started out troubleshooting.
Thanks for the reply.
Ahh, I see what you are saying, there are blue wires going to the 12Volt junction as well. I think this blue wire is smaller than those blue wires, although I sure wish that were the case since I can't get the charging system to work and a loose wire would be a quick fix.
thanks
Thanks for the help.
Another person said the blue was the ground of the glow plug relay. I'm thinking those two wires were for the old relay and are now dangling because they replaced it and put the glow plugs on a toggle on the dash.
The problem with my alternator / Gen 1 light...
Thanks
Thank you, that makes sense now.
They've rewired the glow plug relay to a toggle inside, so they must not have taken the time to insulate the wires at least, and since the glow plugs work I won't worry about it.
I might switch the whole system to 12V since I can't get the driver's...
Yes, I've been through the TM's and wiring diagrams. I still do not know where these 2 wires go, or if its normal for them to go nowhere. Pictures attached. 1 blue 1 pink/black, near driver side relay.
Thanks for any info you might be able to provide. Or flame me, anything would be...
Hi Everyone,
I bought a M1008 two weeks ago, but the Gen 1 light does not come on. No charge on front battery. Back battery charge good. I have replaced the passenger side alternator (tested bad), but I didn't replace the drivers side because it was tested on the stand and they said it was...
