Go there and scroll down the page and look at the photos. That's what a broken flexplate looks like. It's happened to my Suburban and looked EXACTLY like that.
(By the way, I have no idea about that link...
And I swapped in one from a 1991 Suburban -- the last year anything was made with this body style. The only "problem" is that the column has a cruise control switch that I can't/don't use in my M1008.

I think the risk is not in having the t-case engaged with the hubs unlocked.
Rather, the risk is ENGAGING (moving the lever) into 4x4 with the hubs unlocked and the front driveshaft/diff/axles not turning, while the vehicle is at speed. The shock on the t-case of slamming the front rotating...
I don't think I've seen your HMMWV around town? The day I first got my M1008 last summer, I drove it down to Bodo and got my new tags, then to Peerless Tyre to get some rubber. A cop followed me into the parking lot at Peerless and asked for my id and such, and said someone had called to report...
I just ordered a glow plug controller from them. Typing this post is more hassle than ordering from them, it was that painless. I installed it last night -- everything seems top-notch.
