This is very interesting. I have this overhaul tag on my transmission and I have been unable to find out anything on the MWOs applied to it in 1964. Would your supplemental be able to shed light on this? Would you be interested in uploading a copy of the supplemental to the TM section?
Here is...
It's been several years since I messed with the vent hole, but as I recall, there were several things plugged. The middle axle had a pinion seal that failed, possibly because of a plugged vent hole. I used an air compressor and cleared out all the obstructions that may have been present in all...
I certainly understand. Maybe as you go along with this build, you could show us the stock rebuild way and how to beef it up, just in case we are able to find the parts to do that?
I want to know!! I just figured you were going to beef it up anyway, so was watching closely. I think the bad reputation of this transmission has been why very few people have an interest in the G749 series. We need guys like you to educate us!
I have at least one transmission that needs...
Is the reduction unit gasket included in the set Plowboy is sending you? If so, how willing do you think Fatsco would be to duplicate any/all of the gaskets needed or start producing parts specific to this transmission?
Thank you for posting all this knowledge! We probably need to make this...
I used the Airpak rebuild method that Plowboy linked to. It worked great.
You'll need an airpak rebuild kit for an 800 series 5 ton and that piston out of the 5 ton airpak. Big Mikes, Eriks Surplus or others might have the rebuild kit.
The piston is the harder part to find, but I might know...
It is 1944mb's truck that I was talking about. The truck sounded great and no sign that it had a dead cylinder except I noticed it did not have the get up and go like my M135 has in high range when we drove it from Big Timber to Bozeman and back. We checked the carburetor, transmission linkage...
That's great!! Really neat to see your progress.
Kind of sounds like you might need a new accelerator pump in that carburetor. You might also open the transmission cooler and see if it is sludged up. That has always been the case on every truck I have checked. Maybe you'll be lucky and the...
Welcome! That's a great looking truck!
The check valve needs to come out of the master cylinder.
The check valve is in the airpak.
I think there is a spring that should attach to the brake pedal to help it return, but I will check my truck tomorrow.
Here is a link to the parts list...
You might call Memphis Equipment and see if they have new fuel filter screens if you can't get those cleaned up. They have more parts than they list on their website. Tell them the part number off this photo. Their phone number is on the bottom of the page.
Here is a breakdown of the fuel...
My brother came to visit and welded my truck last week. We added some gussets for increased strength.
Changed oil lines on the oil filter housing while doing an oil and filter change.
Happened to find this head bolt tool on eBay in preparation for checking valves, etc.
I'm still pulling...
I failed to take pics of the G506 and CCKWs. There was a total of four or five trucks and they were very rough. It would take all of them and you still wouldn't be able to make a complete truck. Unfortunately a person would about have to get them for free to make it worth the effort and cost of...
Two years later, another road trip and another update. 1944mb and I drove up to meet m1010plowboy in Canada and bought some parts from him that I needed for my M135. Also got some G749 engine stands to use for the engines in my parts trucks. After many years of talking with plowboy through PM...
I have TB 9-2855-40 - Instructions For The Installation Of Personnel Heater Kit (Hot Water) (24V)
It has parts list, pictures, etc. Do I need to try to figure out how to scan and upload a copy?
What would a telephone earth boring truck be worth if you could find one in decent shape?
I was looking through some of my grandfather's WW2 pictures and look what I found at the bottom of this pic. I believe it was taken on Mactan Island, Philippines.
