I was not aware of a museum in Augusta, is this a different museum than the one in El Dorado? I've been following the progress of the El Dorado bunch & I know they're getting very close to purchasing the building their museum is currently housed in.
The He111 I saw at Topeka was from the Spanish AF also, I believe all those used in filming the "Battle of Britain" were. The shape of the engine cowlings is the easiest way to tell the difference. I believe I read somewhere a few years back that it was destroyed in a crash. Thanks for the input!
I wanted to restore one myself from the ground up, but that price for a complete M3 sounds too good to be true! I would be interested to know if it's still for sale & would love to see pictures or a list of what's included / missing. If the rear armor is complete & original, I'm diffinitely...
To everyone:
I feel I should mention that I make my living as a diesel / heavy equipment mechanic for a large cement company (not a concrete company, we mine the limestone, crush it to dust, melt the dust into clinker, grind the clinker with gypsum into the dust called cement that is the binding...
Chief_919, I really appreciate all the suggestions. We have an annual event in Iola, KS called Farm / City Days coming up this fall. Iola claims to have the largest town square in the U.S.A. and they fill it with a car show & vendor booths. I plan on setting up a booth with stuff from my...
paulfarber, Thanks for the input! I agree with everything you said. Interesting that you called them "Confederate Air Force" as I have always hated the name being changed to the more "politically correct" "Commemorative Air Force." My oldest son is a Sergeant in the U.S.M.C. with 12 years...
Thanks for the input! I love the "40th and Plum" bit! We usually just refer to ourselves as "hicks in the sticks!" Actually, the museum will probably wind up being located in Iola, which is the intersection of US169 and US54. Iola is the birthplace of General Frederick Funston & there is a small...
Rick, Thank you for the positive input! I probably should mention that my community is located almost in the middle of nowhere. East/West we're about half way between Wichita, KS and Joplin, MO. North/South we're about half way between Tulsa, OK and Kansas City, KS/MO. The closest serious...
Thank you for the input! The plant in question was built in the mid 70's, so hopefully soil contamination will not be an issue. The company was originally Berg Manufacturing (a division of Echlin) and over the years became Midland-Berg and then Haldex. The property has very little exposed soil...
I know a fellow that I believe still lives in or near Salina that is a very interesting individual. He was born in Germany and was a child during WW2, remembers his city being bombed by the Allies. He used to run a foundry in Iola, KS and I believe he owns & operates a foundry now in Salina...
I am new to Steel Soldiers and seek the knowledge & advice of more experienced military vehicle collectors. ALL COMMENTS WELCOMED, positive or negative.

My ambition is larger than my bank account, but I have a plan. I am organizing a military collector's club in my area with the main (long...
Hello Georgia! I've got a great uncle that lives in Marietta, GA. He was a B-29 pilot in WW2 and I think his son that was a Navy pilot in Vietnam lives in Valdosta.
Follow your dream, but don't ruin your bank account or marriage. I want a M3 half track myself. My grandfather had & used one on his farm, but traded it off when I was a baby. I have some pictures of my Mom sitting on it, remember playing on one of the bullet-proof fuel tanks in his scrap yard &...
Hello from Southeast Kansas, I'm new to Steel Soldiers myself. Originally from Western Kansas where most of my relatives are farmers. Lived in Hanston, Hutchinson, Dodge City & Ingalls before family moved to S.E.K. in 1972, since then I've lived in Iola, Pittsburg, Lawrence & La Harpe, VERY...
