Halftracks are great vehicles. I have a friend that just bought an M4a1, it fits in his garage, aftere he had to punch a hole in the wall!!
Anyways, good luck. Id love to own one some day.
I have a friend that did this:
-Drill stem welded to metal plate for base
-The top of the stem was a fabbed up T section that had vertical posts on each end.
-The top of the ends of the T, he welded in pintle sockets.
-He can either then run 2 M142 cradles for both 60s or use 2 UPA/.30...
That's about typical for the cradle. Some pop up on ebay or the sturmgewehr/sub guns boards every now and then for cheaper. I dont know what the pedestal mount assembly like the one in your pic runs for. Probably $300 or so for a reproduction.
Another option is buying a Universal pintle...
Looks like an M142 cradle slimmed down with a bunch of it missing.
M142 cradles are the best option for mounting the 60 to a vehicle. Make sure you get the long pintle and not the short.
I dont know where or who you're getting you sending units from.
But a lot are cheap reproductions from somewhere overseas that just wont work period. A lot of places are offering these as original NOS or what not.
Check out Moore Militaria as he deals in Vietnam uniforms and equipment for great prices.
As for an original M60 sling, just use a standard M1 cloth sling. It's what you see used more than anything else; if a sling is even being used.
As for the chair, find some old 1960 plastic nasty folding...
I just noticed you're an hour and a half afrom my house. If you ever get a work weekend going and need some help Id be more than willing to come get dirty. Ive worked on plenty of MVs and somewhat skilled. Just let me know.
Im pulling for you on your project and wish the best of luck to ya.
I helped restore an M113 that hadnt ran in probably 10 years and sat threw a hurricane. It took a year, I couldnt imagine doing your project.
I'll let someone who is actually dealing with the vehicle as I dont know if the story is 100% or if teh owner wants it told.
I do know someone in the govt didnt do what they were suppose to, vehicle was lawfully purchased, and it has helped other armored vehicle owners establish precedence in...
Its legit.
Goofy story on how he got it, but DOD or some govt agency made him do the demil as specified in the ad and let him keep it.
Forgot the gentleman's name, but it's been up for sale numerous times and he's got numerous other armored vehicles. Plus the experience has been used in...
