Dock Rocker, you are correct. I meant to say Hertz.
Jamawieb, great input. I'll adjust my load bank and run at 100% for several hours and burn out
any carbon. No noticeable went stacking evident externally. Then I'll measure it's overload cut out threshold
accurately.
Thank you guys.
Hi Folks,
Asking for an experienced opinion on overloading an 803a.
Unit had a Tier 2 reset in 2012
Has 634 hours on meter.
Starts, runs smooth, 240v output
Put it under load 50%, voltage rock steady, amps drop to 58.5
Put it under load at around 105% (57amps) a little smoke, some dry carbon...
Update: One un-frozen injection pump later, started right up. Only 42 hours on the meter. Just going to replace the well nut and do a load test.
Next up: MEP 803a with 200 hours.
Sorry, did not mean actual replacement. The pump IS quite simple, and with only 14 hours on the genny, I believe that things should go well here. Pump is free moving now. Give me a day or two and I'll let you know if it is up and running.
Evening All,
This post follows up on a crank but no start issue that I posted about a month ago.
Followed the TM troubleshooting guide. Found that fuel was flowing but not under pressure.
Started reading posts specific to the injector pumps.
Pulled one injector. Was frozen. Able to free it up...
OK. I am going to bleed again. Maybe I didn"t do a proper job of it. I'll let you know what I find. Thank's everybody. Excellent being able to
ask and learn on this forum.
Picked up two units of similiar age and hours. Both pretty clean. Unit one started right up after basic prep (filters and fluids).
Unit two cranks fine, but exhaust output seems very clean ( no fuel smell ). That's what is making me wonder.Even though fuel
return line is flowing, can that mean...
Hi Guyfang,
I read your posts often. Solinoid moves. Am assuming S1 is in working order as it kills everything when pushed in and all appears to
function when pulled out.
Hi Folks,
Could use some input. 802a with 42 hours reading. I believe it to be true. New batteries, new filters.
First crank shows return fuel line leaking. Replaced lines. Bled system up to pumps. Have fuel returning back to
tank. Cranks but still no start. S1 works. Fuses checked. Oil...
Understood. And thanks. By the way, pulling the plug on the "water in fuel solenoid" was my starting point in possibly isolating the problem. I isolated something.
M1008 fuse #17 blowing
Hey folks, posted before about this problem. Had to leave for a week and just got back. The issue was fuse blowing when turning the key. I have a manual glow plug switch. Circuit works with the glow plugs, hence no cold starts. Looked at the engine compartment ignition...
Fuse #17. Since it is intermittent failure, the suggestion of cleaning the fuse holder tabs and checking the tension of the holder
sounds like good advice. I'll let you know. Always good to get a different view on things through the members here, Thank's
guys.
Hi Folks. '86 M1008.
problem: crank but no start, tracked down blown 20 amp fuse in fuse panel. replaced. all good.
Few weeks later, same deal. Any hints where to start looking for a short?
No controller, manual switch for glow plugs I installed years ago. Did the doghead relay fix at the same...
Here is my question: Am going away for several weeks. M1008 parked under cover. Friend will start it and move it every one to two weeks. Have two maintainer/chargers. Do I really need to set them up? Starting to get cold here, just don't want him to have any issues while I am gone.
