It runs again! Thanks. Got the switch out without draining the coolant, but I wouldn't recommend it, it was a gusher, but didn't lose too much coolant, just got a shower.
Napa part number was TS7265, and it was made in the US, $42.
One tip that could be worth a Sticky, the Google search...
My M1008 is blowing the IGN CONTROL 20 amp fuse and will not start, turn key, no wait light, no water in fuel light, but starter turns over. Finally got it rolled into the garage. I removed and tested all the glow plugs and checked the connections they are good.
Near the furtherest back glow...
Here are some other pics, they are either labelled as AGT or Rupse brand no part numbers they seem to make the round version and spotlight versions. I'll try to take some other pics of them installed on my truck sometime.
Dirty1 they are too bright for using on road, you'll blind other...
I recently installed 27w LED Off-road Lights to help with plowing. Got the lights off Amazon for about $60/pair without wiring harness. Really impressed with the LED's, they are super bright, can run off 24 v, and only draw 1.8 amps per pair. Nice they can run off 24v since I'm already working...
I'll start a new thread for the light topic so we're not hijacking this one. I used a toggle switch rated for 10amps, separate switch for front and back, I didn't choose to use a relay because at 24v they only draw 1.8 amps per pair, so it's not a big draw like HID's or 100w off road lights...
M1008's make awesome plow trucks!!! :beer:Love mine, like your flat bed. Looks like they did a good job mounting your plow, mine lost the front bumper and the brush guard when they installed mine.
I just installed 4- 27W LED Off-Road Lights made by AGT from Amazon, I think a 2 pack was $60 but...
Here the pics. An ugly cut out I know, I could have made it nicer if I had known exactly was was in the duct work, ended up trimming extra plastic off the fan to help it fit. I temporarily taped the hole with duct tape but plan to cut a piece of black plastic with some weatherstripping to seal...
My M1008 was having a similar issue, not with heat, do have an arctic cover installed, but just with airflow. The arctic heater system might have some extra drag in it that slows airflow to the defroster. Fan worked on all speeds and seemed to be running at full speed with good voltage, and air...
The truck is 24V and looking at your picture the red starter cable iDM1028 described above looks like it still comes off the firewall, not the front battery which would mean the starter would still be 24V too.
M1008's have plenty of power to push snow, I love mine. With a V Plow and the low gearing I can push snow uphill if I need to. I have a very steep, long driveway with 2 switchbacks and am very happy. M1009's are nice too with a nice short turning radius but with some weight in the bed and low...
CARNAC does us a great service and can run your VIN, search for 2011 VIN and it should come up. Mine came back with a mileage from a unit. If yours comes back with a higher number than it has probably rolled over or has had the speedo switched out.
Certainly doesn't tell for sure the real...
I replaced mine last year when I bought the truck with the DieselRX Wellmans because thats what the Wiki recommended. Once I had them installed I started reading all the threads about them swelling and causing trouble. I'm pretty sure the DieselRX and the SSDieselSupply ones are the exact same...
I'd say go by the VIN for registration, 1985, but whenever you go to get parts it's easiest to ask for 1984 parts because later years had civy upgrades and part changes that the military vehicles didn't get.
Precleaners are pretty standard on heavy equipment, like my Case 580 Backhoe. One thing to consider is a standard precleaner like on Case or CAT equipment. Like this one:
Caterpillar Heavy Equipment Air Filter Assembly 1217746
Even though the Sy-klone one's sound nice because there is no...
Have an old Boss RT1, that had a custom, and not very pretty, mount welded up, required removal of front shackles and bumper. Newer plow mounts are completely different and I've seen some nice mounts in the other snow plow threads. If you aren't set on a Boss I think some one found a mounting...
Don't use Wellman's (Diesel Rx) like the Wiki says, seems the preferred plugs are the ac60g's or the bosch ones, don't know the number but a search should bring them up.
And yes, it has been covered a ton before, if you are trying to find something using search sometimes it can help to go into...
Welcone to the forum.
Did the Doghead mod when I got my M1008, I just cut off the old one as close to the relay as possible.
Whats your aversion to cutting the wires? It's a weak relay there and you are never going to put a crappy relay back in there, so you are always going to want the lugs...
