It's too bad this is scheduled for the same weekend as the F1 race in Austin, which I bought tickets for months ago. You will have to find someone else to drag the rally car back to the fire after its demise.
I hope I'll be able to make the next outing in the Spring.
I'm quite disappointed. The wife's birthday is on April 18th, and it's a big on this year. I don't think I can miss it to go play out in the desert. Suppose I'll just have to wait for the Fall Rally. The M1008 wants to go play!
I'm disappointed I missed this outing. It looks really fun, with the rally cars and all. I hope you guys set up a spring event again. I'll bring up the M1008 and have some fun next time.
Yes you can swap the mechanical for the VSS. All you need is the VSS tail housing and the tone ring. Unfortunately I think only the 90 and 91 passenger side drop GM case have this tail housing. The drivers side drop housing that is very common won't work since it has the cavities in the wrong...
Got it out. Extreme digging and sand bags under the front tires gave me the edge to get out. My friend in his FJ got stuck on the beginning of the trail, so that didn't work out.
So who else in the San Diego area takes their CUCV off roading? I would like to get a group of full size rigs out...
I just wanted to see if anyone lived in the San Diego area that could help pull out my M1008. I'm stuck in some pretty deep mud/sand in a not so dry stream bed. I'm burried up to the front axle and front bumper. I have 37" tires and Detroit lockers front and rear. I probably need another...
I had the same problem a year or so ago. The cable snapped about 100 feet from the trail head. I had to use vice grips and no air cleaner to get home.
I remember having problems finding a replacement too. All the local auto parts stores had the same ones or ones that just didn't fit. I...
The last piece of information I have is about the adapters. If you are using the stock CUCV adapter it is considered the tall 6 bolt adapter. This is because it attaches to the transmission with 6 bolts. If you are putting a 700R4 into your CUCV, you will need the tall 4 bolt adapter due to...
Since I happen to have both a VSS (velocity speed sensor, basically an electrical pickup) tail housing and a mechanical speedometer tail housing, I will show those differences as well.
Here they are side by side. Mechanical on the left, VSS on the right.
A couple of different views...
I also wanted to physically show the differences between the NP208 and the NP241. The length is basically the same give or take maybe 1/4". This means no driveshaft modifications. You can even use your existing NP208 shifter. I didn't even have to readjust my shifter rod, the end slipped...
So this topic has been covered sporadically in several different posts, but I wanted to make an inclusive one with pictures of the differences between the NP208C and the NP241C.
I recently swapped the NP208 from my 1986 M1008 with an NP241 from an 1989 3/4 ton Suburban. I did this to get a...
First, I realize this probably isn't the place to "sell" items. But, the NP241 that I have is from a 1989 3/4 ton Suburban. It's used and a bit dirty still so I am asking $275 for it. Everything shifts good on it. Since it seems you had a NP208 in the truck, this will bolt directly in place...
Not sure if you ever decided on which transfer case route you were going, but I have a NP241C passenger side drop, 32 spline case. It will bolt right up to where the NP208 was and is the exact dimensions as the NP208, so no driveshaft modifications. It is also a mechanical speedo, but I do...
I have a similar problem with my M1008. Soon after I start the truck the glow plug relay clicks like crazy for about 5-20 seconds and then it stops. It usually occurs after I start driving the truck and doesn't do it all the time. I'm not sure the glow plugs are ever working, but luckly I...
Chicagodiesel,
I was unable to find a part number for the cold advance solenoid, also know as the HPCA. I checked all local stores and no one had it. I finally found it on ebay. Search "6.2 HPCA" and you will see one for sale by accuratediesel. It comes with a new ip cover gasket as well...
So I ended up removing the tank and there was all sorts of rust in it. I used some laquor thinner, old diesel, and acetone to clean it out. I was able to get most of the rust out but there was still some residue (when I wiped the inside of the tank with with a cloth it came up with...
