Sounds like the starter relay welded itself shut. Once the magic smoke gets out it is impossible to get it back in. I would concentrate on wherever you saw the smoke coming from. That is definitely going to be a problem area and may give clues as to what caused it. Are the heavy grounds all...
Since you say it is a remote property have you checked all of the wiring for rodent damage? Possible couple chewed wires shorted together or to ground.
No problem, After I posted the first attempt I reread you post and and figured it out. I think you may have seen that post of mine before I deleted it and posted what is there now. I am not saying the valve route is impossible but if the valve guides are that bad it is probably not going to have...
Diesel engines are still an internal combustion engine so all of the same principles still exist. The differences are instead of spark to ignite the fuel you have the heat frim high compression and the throttle is controlled solely by the amount of fuel added. This is where a runaway can come...
The valve guides would have to be worn pretty bad to have any runaway issue from that. And there is really not enough oil in the top end even if they were. But why just one piston? Did you check the rest of the engine while you were in there?
Have you checked the vapor return for blowby? That would be a sure indicator of ring condition. A lot of blowby means worn rings. And on an air cooled engine there is little to no wet stacking due to the higher head temperatures. If you have no oil leaks the loss of oil would also point in that...
Ok, I need to ask, If the Chiefs rifle was there where was the Chief? If he was not there and his rifle was that was a serious infraction of the rules in any branch of the service.
That is why I never heard back from them on the set with the pump issue. Mike told me about it but at the time I had only brought money for the one set. I told him to get me a price and I might take another trip down but never heard anything from him. Now I know why. Glad someone got it that I...
Yup, runs good. It does smoke out of one pipe until it warms up but I watched Scooby's video and his does the same thing from the same pipe. I am thinking possibly a sticking injector from sitting so I have a healthy dose of Power Service cleaner/lube in there. I still need to load test it but I...
I have 2 002's and one 003. Mt setup is I have a manual lockout in the panel and I go out to to start the machine. That way I know for sure it has oil pressure, it is running at the proper frequency and there are no other issues. I also go out and check on the unit every half hour to hour to be...
It sounds like you are trying to do this without an ATS? That would be very bad as there are too many ways that could backfeed to the grid. Not to mention illegal.
Is this a new to you generator? Do you have any experience with military generators? Have you had this generator running yet? Lots of questions need to be answered to reply to your request.
To all those considering a Co2 extinguisher keep in mind that you need one big enough to fog that intake until the motor has completely stopped. On a genset with that very heavy rotating mass that could take a while. If you run out of Co2 before the engine stops turning it will pick right up...
Most Detroits came with them, the only problem is that by the time the engine wore to the point of actually needing it the damper was frozen with rust.
A little history on why I distrust most additives. Back in the days when I had my own shop I was hired by a very wealthy client to test additives, both oil and gas. I told him I did not have access to the labs needed and his reply was, "I want real work testing, use my cars" His cars consisted...
