I've made quite a few purchases from the Sparta location and have nothing but good things to say about the crew there. Have you called them? Are you planning to pick it up yourself, or hire someone? If you're coming over in person, there are plenty of good folks here on SS that can help you...
I had that same "knocking" noise on my first M923. See my thread about my first oil change, and you'll see I had a "partially-grenaded" cylinder liner. I sure hope you don't have the same issue on that sweet new engine. I could sometimes hear the knock in mine at idle also, and I didn't hear...
I have a M923 that was re-built in '07 at MCLB Barstow and has the lockers. (see avatar pic). My truck has a warning placard on the drivers door that states: "CAUTION - This Vehicle is equipped with Detroit Locker / No Spin Positive - Locking differentials in rear axles..." Look for the...
Depends if you bought it from a private party or the .gov... If private, then I'd say just register it as a AMGeneral Van or truck and pay the fee. If it came from the .gov, then you'll have to mail it into Madison and deal with the "Research and Information Unit"... They shouldn't give you...
Great Pics!! Thanks for posting. It was great to meet everyone, and I agree, Poof positively out-did himself with the food this time. Chickens were Awesome, and the taters Rocked!
"Don't I have enough bows?"
...while it's true that I "may" have a sufficiently adequate supply of bow CORNERS, anyone will tell you I am definitely still "One bow short of a full set"... :(
(I need the long part that goes across the top from one side of the truck to the other)
I'll be there with at least one of my trucks, and my dad who is freshly RE-Retired has graciously reserved the day on his calendar so he can join us as well.
PS. (I'm looking for the guy from Illinois that I talked to at Iola who said he had one steel bow to sell me. If you bring it, I'll...
I've heard about those Bead Breaker's. I'd sure love to get my hands on one. I've got at least 3 tires to break down when I get home from this trip. :D
13th & 14th work better for me. And,,, my Dad should be re-retired and back in town then so we can bring 2 trucks!! As for camping,,, well you know me. I've still got the furnished studio apartment in the back of my 5ton so I can stay anywhere.
Well, we haven't met yet, but you are the one who told me I missed the best part by not doing my own recovery on the first trailer I bought. Now I've spent most of the last year trying to make up for that! I look forward to discussing this in more detail. Thanks.
Wes.
So, I've got a lead on a good motor at a decent price. Question is,,, can I "easily" swap a NHC250 from an 800 series truck into my 923? I know I'll need a lot of the externals swapped over, but is this a realistic option? As usual, all opinions and suggestions are welcome.
Wes.
Ohhh,,, ya'll are scarin' me now!!! Thank God I've an auxiliary standby M923 to get me by till this one is fixed. (FYI - the one in my Avatar is fine,,, only 12 hours on that engine...)
Thanks Westech... a neighbor who is an engine mechanic and Kennys and I were debating whether it was the bottom part of a piston, or a liner. I was leaning toward liner, especially since all my coolant is ending up in the oil pan. Thanks for confirming my worst fears. Now, the $64,000...
So, I'm losing coolant and notice an excess amount of slimey, sludgy oil on my dip-stick. Time to replace the oil cooler gaskets maybe? Decide to drain the oil and do an oil change while I'm at it. So we (Kenny actually) pull the drain plug, and I notice a peculiar triangle shaped piece of...
