Has anyone tried making their own canvas top for their trailer? I haven't been able to find an original one / I know they are stupid expensive if you can find one, so I've been thinking of making my own.
If I was to make my own, I'd have the rear section be zippered and have a mesh screen on...
Big thanks to Gimpy, my trailer is starting to get whooped into shape. New arm showed up today, and it looks like it's going to straighten out the tongue angle a lot. I need some new bolts since a few didn't want to cooperate coming out, so they met the BFH.
Didn't really feel like messing...
Quite a few of them. Expedition portal has a few too, I'm not over there though. Ih8mud has several as well, I can't remember if I'm over there or not. I might have registered but never posted.
Figured I'd just come to the source for info on them, easier that way.
Yeah, I'm not sure how extreme I'm going to go. Ideally, this is going to be an all purpose trailer. From anything from getting a load of firewood or mulch, to transporting my motorcycle, to offroad camping fun.
Yeah. A custom axle is in my future at some point, probably with electric brakes. But until then, I have no complaints with the surge brakes since mine work. Main reason I want a new axle is just to shed some weight / have the same bolt pattern.
There's quite a few people on the FJ forums that tow these things just fine with no brakes, also several that have swapped the axles over just so they only have to carry one spare tire. That's probably what I'm going to do down the road. Couple that with a lock and roll coupler, I'd be set.
FJ is rated up to 5000 pounds, they "recommend" trailer brakes over 1,000 pounds. That being said, I've towed close to 4700 pounds with mine with no brakes, and it did just fine.
I'm probably going to ditch the camo and just go OD. That being said, my Toyota is a pretty close match in it's factory "army green". However, it's paint condition is uhh....less than desired. I've put it thru it's paces off road and have the pin stripes to prove it. What I'm probably going...
Hey all, I snagged up my M101A3 (at least that's what I assume it is) from Fort Riley, KS a few weeks ago, GL had it listed as an M101A2, but once I got there, I saw it was sitting on the 37" Hummer run flats, and had the lifting points on the side and 55" IIRC between the wheel wells.
Think...
