It is a 1/8 NPT thread. There is definitely fluid up that high up. I had to have some quick hands while laying on my back. I'm still not sure if its the best place to get a temp reading. But it sure is the easiest. Good luck!

Help me troubleshoot electrical problems with m1009

I had a similar problem with my M1009 when I first got it. If you don't have access to a multi-meter look at your fusible links. Check the orange wires on the passenger side firewall. I didn't have a multi-meter and was able to see they were bad by rolling the wire between my fingers. The...

    Only in a Huey!

Had a Navy buddy come up to NY for fleet week 2012 on the USS Wasp. I got a "real" tour of the ship, and it brought back a lot of memories. They had a great display on the flight deck. I tried to sit I the cockpit of a Cobra but I'm 6'5" and it wasn't happening. I always loved the Huey as a kid...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I sheared of a starter bolt today. It happened 30 miles from home at a gas station. I went to start the truck after fueling up and I heard a nasty grinding sound. While I was on my back trying to access the situation I discovered that my friendly (now previous) mechanic failed to re-secure the...

    M1009 pulling a S-250/M101A3

Thanks Barrman for your advice and experience. It looks like I'm not going to be able to take my new shelter camping anytime soon. I plan on adding an external oil and trans cooler, so hopefully I will be ok lugging the S-250 around town on short back road trips.

    M1009 pulling a S-250/M101A3

I recently purchased a S-250 that I plan to make into a camper/communication unit. I'm now looking for a trailer to mount my shelter on for transportation. From my research it looks like it should fit in a M101A3 trailer or something similar with modification. Now my concern is if my 86 M1009 is...

Whats the best PRC radio for vehicle mounting.

Thanks you CARNAC and Tennmogger for your wealth of knowledge. I am not opposed to using a non-US Green radio (as long is its from one of our allies). I have seen a couple PRC-320's online that have been converted with LSB. I will also check out the PRC-174 and RT-254. Since I already have a CB...

    CUCV Electric

I agree Doghead, that there is most likely nothing that can be done by any SS member (senior or not). But Farscrape is a new member (like me) and doesnt know all the idiosyncrasies of this group of members. We all know that owning/repairing Militrary Vehicles is a small community of people. Im...

    Cold Outside Air Through Firewall

Update. So while looking at a friends M1009 today I noticed a piece on his lower heater duct assembly that I do not have on my vehicle. This could be the solution to my problem, and so the hunt begins. I pointed the piece out in the picture. Note....The picture is from google and just shows the...
