I have been running WVO for seven years in a Mercedes and a land rover diesel. 130k miles and have never seen anything remotely resembling this. 300 hours of trouble-free ops then, suddenly, a major issue with no warning.
What's left of the 15w-40 in the oil filter is a gummed up mess that I suspect to be WVO. Put 5 quarts oil in the motor, fired it up felt a few seconds. No knocks or strange noises.
Relatively low hours (400). Sat for years. Been running fine with little smoke on heated (160 degree F) WVO.
Sump pumped dry, oil pressure switch shut down motor as designed.
Am I looking at a ring replacement? Just happened a few hours ago, no time yet for compression test. Valves recently...
Could someone post either the specs or a cross-referenced part # for the copper washers on the injector lines of the 004a injection pump?
Thanks in advance.
My 004 project is complete, or at least it is complete to the extent that any project is ever really complete!
Single phase electric, powering the entire all-electric 2,000sf home, including one 3.0 ton and two 2.5 ton heat pumps, on free waste vegetable oil...yep, free!
Proud to say that for...
I have an 004 secured in a 10x14 building. 150 feet will create "line loss", so a large service cable will be needed. I had no reason for mobility for my genset, nor did I have a trailer for mine, so permanent mounting was a no-brainer.
Unless you have an ASK kit, placing it far from your house...
There was no ASK kit on this unit. Doors were beat up and, with extremely tight setback limitations, my shed was barely wide enough inside to allow for easy access for door openings with my WVO filtration system on one side.
I built a wood frame shed around my mep004. Poured a footer and built a block foundation under the planned location for the genset's skids. 2x12 floor joists, 12" centers. Overkill? Sure. Increased expense versus increased worry, I'll take the minimal expense. Shed is only 10x14.
I removed the...
Check state laws. Not all states require you to pay a fuel tax on alternative fuel sources. I have been running wvo in my vehicles for 7 years. I use a two-tank system, start up on diesel and switch to wvo once the engine coolant reaches 150. Run the wvo through a heat exchanger and ride the...
After further research, I built an enclosure between the radiator end and the fiberglass louvered opening and used homasote board to create diagonal baffles inside. TripleJim's concept of 90 degree angles, requiring sound to "bounce", worked very well for the circulation air exhaust. A Dodge...
Genset installed in an enclosed 10x14 insulated wood-frame building. Exhaust connected to a Maxim silencer mounted outside.
I mounted a K+N style conical filter behind a gable end vent for intake manifold air. Wow, is that a source of some loud noise!
I have louvered openings approximately...
My goal is to operate the set for whole-house power. I currently have a manual disconnect at my service entrance to allow 100% grid or 100% genset power. Once I have fine-tuned everything, I hope to run the set enough to become a net export producer, just enought to offset most of my electric...
Three years, but didn't focus on the genset until recently. My fuel system is all manual now, designed to be started on diesel and manually switched to wvo once warmed up. Plan to grid-tie once all is functioning and back feed the grid using VA's net metering law. Completed sewerzuk's single...
TripleJim, that was it. I have the starter cranking now! Now to add diesel fuel and prime the fuel system. Been waiting three years to get to this point! Thanks!
Finally have the 004 ready for a test, but not so fast...
The electric fuel pumps and float switch, etc have been removed. My unit is fed from two small tanks which are mounted on the top of the unit and pumped through a mechanical, block mounted fuel lift pump.
I attempted to crank the motor...
