I'm sure it'll be good to go with some quality grease! IMO I'd just bite the bullet on pulling all the other hubs, bearings aren't cheap but spindles are more expensive. Hopefully the rest are good to go though.
I would say that you are spot on with your assessment. I have one of the wix filters (can't remember the number) that fits bit is smaller and rated for less. One of these days I'll clean up my old filter well, and compare boost/egts on it vs the wix vs the PDD. Should be an interesting test.
It really is strange how much they can vary.. I suppose that's part of why these oil threads always blow up haha. I can't blame you for trying the good stuff off that bat, it would be nice to have all the characteristics of the synthetic oil (low pour point is what tempts me).

I know what you're talking about, it's synthetic. I've looked at it, and have heavily contemplated trying it. It looks like good fluid but for the price I have a hard time commiting to it, for fear that my trans ends up not liking it.
As another update here.. I put about 100 miles or so on the 40 wt ND oil, and maybe it was just chance but it immediately started leaking from the rear main seal (well not quite immediately, I think it started once it was warmed up), at least as far as I can tell that's where it was coming from...
Definitely not your fault! It was worth the try and ultimately we aren't out that much. I'd have never predicted that a filter with almost twice the flow rating, and that is working well on a much more powerful engine, would do this. There was really no reason to assume this wouldn't have worked...
I'm going to guess that the old filters work because of the surface area, they have a lot more than the PDD. The extra surface area should allow it to catch a lot more particulate before it plugs up. At least that's all i can think of.. If i had to guess a PDD filter exactly the same size as the...

Well eff this sounds like my exact issue.. wish I hadn't cut apart my filter housing bottom.. That is exactly what my filter looks like on the outside. I'm glad you chimed in before i bought the 9" version, thank you! I'm considering trying another aftermarket type filter, but idk for sure after...
Mine has the stock side panel inlet right now.
That would probably help with the loading up of the filter.. might be worth a shot. I'll probably try a different filter first though, since this one seems to be cutting boost by a psi or two, even when clean. A snorkel is still a good idea though...
So just to update this again, the filter is definitely plugging up. I cleaned it yesterday and went for a drive, back to 11 psi and egts staying in the mid 1100s on hills. I like that the filter is apparently doing its job catching particulate, just need more capacity.
