Yes it's inside the alternator and that is the part. I bought an alternator off eBay that was said to be an isolated ground. When I hooked it up the battery sparked horribly and almost fried a battery wire. I took it back off and opened it up and noticed this part missing?!!! I have since...
I cleaned the grounds as far as the alternator, batteries, etc. I'm suspecting that Gen 2 alternator is worn and is on the way out. It looks original to the truck. Thanks for the replies.
Hi. I'm sure this has come up before but I've searched and between here and my TMs I haven't found an answer. My Gen 2 light stays on at idle and goes out at speed. My batteries are new, belts are new, I've cleaned the grounds including the Gen 2 bulb socket, which actually made it worse...

Thanks ill do that. I just found I don't have power at my gen 2 light socket. Checked the exciter wire and it has some funky diode or resistor inline that I don't know how to tell if it's good. Guess ill keep searching. Thanks again.
Hi, I'm installing a new alternator in the gen 2 position and I noticed that my truck does not have the black wire with push plug for the small stud. What was this wire for and where does it go? Any help would be appreciated. It's a 1985 M1009 army that transferred to the navy in the 90s.
