So Derek, do you have any of those pins and bushings you can sell to me? "Actuator bearing shaft" and "bearings" is what the manufacturer calls them.
Thanks.
David
That's great. Tinstar is looking for surge brake shock and I wouldn't mind having another one of those in my spares pile.
I am looking for the pins and bushings for the main mechanism--the bolts that hold the straps that allow the thing to move.I can dig out the diagram and give you a part...
Holy cow! Might be worth checking some of the surplus places--ArmySurplyswarehouse out in Idaho and some others and ask them who to ask. Manerie up in Grand Isle Vt might be a source if he is still in business.

My notes say the following:
Generically: 1844-2
Macco 18442 ir 844-2, HO570K2J
Gabriel T40726SA also 1844-2
back in 2005 bought them from Redneck Trailer Supply Carlisle PA (717) 241-4444 for $52 ea. (ouch!)
Thanks for clarifying. I did wire wheel and grease, but I think that new bushings at least and maybe new pins are in order. Will get in touch with Croft.
David
Thanks. That's great to know.
So are the pins supposed to move inside the bushings? Mine aren't worn per se, but are rusty and don't move within the bushings--at least not easily.
David
All,
I have a 1985 M101A2 (actually it is an M116A2 that I got a 101 body for; only difference is heavier springs and two rear landing legs that I removed).
I just took apart the surge brake actuator to check the shock. It is fine.
However...nomenclature first (as I intend it):
Straps: the...
I cannot easily post pictures because the truck is in pieces in another state. I can tell you that Power Wagon bodies did not change appreciably between 1946 and 1968. There is a huge PW following and many groups and sites on line dedicated to them. My knowledge is limited compared to the...
Ahh, but my van has F series lug spacing--SuperDuty front end and spacers on the van rear to accept E series stud pattern so that all four wheels match...
That is a nice looking tire at a great price. Thanks for the lead.
Then I scroll down and see the load range F and G tires; they look good for loads but not for traction and I have no idea about puncture resistance. You do need some traction in rain, ice, mud or the trailer will slide around...
I'll check out the Walmart tires. I'll also call Tire Rack. They have been great in the past.
To answer what I pull it with: Alas, not a military vehicle. I pull it with a 2003 Ford E350 with a 4WD conversion.
For what it is worth I am working--very slowly--on building a 1946 Power Wagon...
Good idea. I also have a friend who does a lot of truck work; I will ask him to keep his eyes open. One problem could be that newer trucks tend to run 17" or even 20" rims.
Lemme figure out how to change the profile location. I am not trying to keep it a secret or anything.

Thanks. I'll stick with the stock size and look for a recognizable brand. I want good strength, wear, and tread, but not so much lug that I get a lot of hiway noise.

All,
I used my 1985 M101A2 recently for the first time in about a year. Great trailer; tows well, backs well, stops well, and carries a LOT of weight. When I went to use it I checked the tire pressure--one was still at 65psi, the other down to about 10. Not bad for 12 months outside. I aired up...
Man, what a story! But really valuable information for my friend. Looks easy enough with his skills and his tractor. I passed it along to him.
Thanks for sharing!

Title says it all. A friend just bought at auction an M116A3. I have an M105 body I am looking to get rid of. Mine has no data plate--long story and so I don't have the specifications to compare to the M116.
Thanks for any information.

Thanks for the information and photos everybody. Now I understand it completely--even how the crank is stowed on the leg. Very helpful. Really appreciate it.
Riftweaver, how much do you charge for a handle including shipping?

Thanks Jeff. I would really appreciate seeing a photo of how the handle engages the pin.
I am in Philadelphia, PA. Sorry I left that out.
Nice looking M715 you have there.
