Finally finished it. Took it on a 2 day camping trip. Lots of fun driving through about 20 miles of rugged terrain filled with steep climbs and many a mud hole.
What was happening was that the steering wheel had too much play. I had to turn the wheel a quater turn before the wheels moved. Screwing the sector shaft bolt on the box adjusted the ring gear to engage with less play. Lifting the truck pulled the gears in the box away from eachother just...
The wheels are aftermarket 16.5's.....crager I think. After a little more digging online, I adjusted the sector shaft bolt on the steering box and it helped out ALOT! It's now drivable. Still needs attention but it's much better. Now it just feels like it's a tad out of allignment.
It handled great before the axle swap. Before the swap, I was running 33's though....now there are 37's on it. The frame is fine. The toe? No, I didn't check. Don't know what to look for.
Thanks for the info. Yeah, I was hoping that I could get away without having to buy the crossover steering kit.....at least for awhile while I saved up the money.

Cut out some rot on the tailgait and welded in fresh sheet metal. Tomorrow's bondo and paint of the tailgait should be the last bit of body work that I'll have to do.
Routed and wired up the headlights, ran the wires for the new gauges, more body work, some interior work......then took her for the 1st test drive since the rebuild.
Just got done with the green portion of the truck. The rattle cans worked ok. I'm sure it'd be better using a compressor. Doing it in my yard so I couldn't control the conditions.....dust etc. I have a couple of gnats forever immortalized in the paint, which is kinda cool. It aint a show...
Unfortunatly, there are no bonified paint stores in my area. I live out in the sticks. I'm a bit behind schedule because of the weather but I'm hoping to lay down paint on Monday. Pics will follow.
