    The next Project an ASMH

that source is good to know! ... I have a NOS zenith on a shelf in the M750 for almost 20 years now, waiting for me to have time to swap it onto the M51 , whose holley is still operational with the usual temperments they have .. The accelerator pump in it has gone bad this year, so time is...

The Parts Difference Between Upper-Quadrant / Lower-Quadrant Headlights Is ...

While digging thru some old manuals in my drawer the other day i came across a 1965 M44-series deuce manual that discussed differences between the gassers and dash-A1 multifuel trucks .. Among the list was a mention about headlamp quadrant position , gasser non-winch trucks vs gasser winch...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

the only problem i can visualize with re-plumbing the dash "pre-heat" primer pump is the small size of the line versus the size the cummins PT-pump needs to be fed with.. I would think some blisters would appear before the OEM dash primer pump fills the filter can etc. The dash primer pumps...

    The next Project an ASMH

yes i recall the BN's 5T M62 and M543 gasser wreckers droning away quite happily at a fairly-consistent high-idle RPM regardless of load, like a farm tractor .. Mine unfortunately is nothing like that although it was a gasser which unfortunately got stuck with a multifuel at some point .. I...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

unfortunately that's the nature of the M809-series , losing prime is easy once their system is opened up.. Changing a fuel filter beside the road without having a can of fuel to fill the filter can is impossible unless you have a hose and like the taste diesel fuel , and even then, priming is...

    The next Project an ASMH

yeah, thanks for pics, i don't think i ever saw that linkage assembly on my truck anytime i went under to grease it, but i will look again !! I have to run it with happy spots on the throttle which depends on the load expected

    Tarp cleaning and stave length

Here's the pics, circa 1977 or '78 Company Maint M35A1 "skinny stack" .. Elongated end tarp appears to be one piece all the way down .. I don't recall if this was a custom-sewn item, or COEI / Bii ... Truck had been recently repainted and in process of having its tall setup reinstalled...

nice clean 1953 M62 wrecker (gasser) on GSA in nebraska being sold for scrap

i don't recall if the story is here in a SS forum, or if i read it at a different military truck website, or an A-W construction website, or ATHS magazine, or could have been in Military Vehicles magazine .. The "conflict" had to do with a problem with a Patent or some other Legal matter with...

nice clean 1953 M62 wrecker (gasser) on GSA in nebraska being sold for scrap

M543's built before 1964 are all gassers (originally).. The Austin-Western conflict / Garwood resolution happened around 1957 , thus gasser M543's were in production about 6 years , and then the (diesel) A1's and subsequent (mulitfuel) A2's started rolling in

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

yes , the wavy washer is the spring that keeps the diaphram normally closed.. sorry i don't recall but i think the spring is free-floating , it should need freedom to lay flat under magnetism and return curvature .. It likely can't do that if it's "glued" to the diaphram , and I know you know...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

PS; although it doesn't show on the TM illustration, your truck has a fuel solenoid bypass "screw" on it , it's at the front with knurled knob ... Some cummins 855's have it, some don't.. I don't recall which way it turns for bypass (in or out), but it would be opposite of what is is right...

nice clean 1953 M62 wrecker (gasser) on GSA in nebraska being sold for scrap

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

1: The solenoid is a simple item to clean up .. There is a spring in there (maybe two, it's been many years) but it comes apart and goes together easy , only about 3 pieces in there At one time I had trouble with an M818 solenoid so i gutted it and ran it for a few weeks using the emergency...

Getting to it... CAMO tip of the day

You did exactly what i've done in decades past when R/R engines in M880-types and larger trucks.. When i was in my teens and 20's i had no issue doing tasks without dismantling other things.. But I got smarter after that to take a few steps further and remove the hood, the grille & radiator...

    Tarp cleaning and stave length

HQ Company Maint section as well as BN Maint in my Armor BN each had a M35A1 with high (hardwood) bows , high enough to stand under.. . They had OD-painted plywood on all 4 sides underneath the canvas and a makeshift door in the back, had to drop the tailgate to open the door .. I never looked...

    Military? trailer ID?

with exposed civilian-type axle bearing caps, hubcap-type rims, and that style of bed, it's not a US military jeep trailer of the 1940's on up.. However, the Spen company made many jeep-type trailers.. One of their particular models, at quick glance from the front, was a twin to the Bantam...
