Found a Jeep truck in the next county over that was to cheap to pass up. Borrowed a big flatbed trailer and went and got it. 12900 pounds! And it towed really well. A huge difference with new injectors. It sure is a different animal now.
And who is the jokester (Gimp) that had TNJ...
Just a little follow up. I adjusted the trans controller a little. I keep it in lock up longer and can accelerate much better than in 4th. I raised the 3-4 shift points too. About half throttle it will come out of lock up instead of coming out right away. It picks up speed nicely now. There...
It is great stuff. I put it on the plow truck blade, the insides of the snow blower, and it works great. I also just found out Idaho transportation dept is switching to a salt that is 97% soon. Fluid Film is going to be a much needed protectant of sheet metal. You can already see through both...
PROBLEM SOLVED!
I replaced the injectors today along with the fuel filter. The filter was not that old but I had a new one, so what the heck. I was hoping to notice a bit of a difference after getting done.
I could tell immediately that it was a good thing as soon as I started it. What did I...
I will do that. I do find stuff once in a awhile. I have a lot of parts. I can't help it.
Gimp, I want popcorn for some reason. Lots of it!
Geez, my post count is 455. Is that a hint?
And to think I gave away 2 buick 455's. I was going to put one in my own wagoneer and changed my mind. I tried to sell them even on a buick forum, no go. I gave them to Fisherman, a member here and on the zone. He has gotten out of the mil truck business. One was a 1967 370 HP 410 Ft lb motor...
I have fluid film all over the place. I like that stuff a lot. That is what it is made for. It creeps. I have some sheet metal to fix now. But that us what I do for work now.
I think in the long run, given the low miles, a V-8 gasser is what I would like to do. I see some pretty neat motors...
Thank you Tim and Chaski,
I was pleased to see those numbers. It shifts out of lockout when I want to pass. Into 4th. It just feels washed out. I will make a note of what RPM I am at next time I drive it and nail it. And I did a little reading on IP timing and ended up in the rebuild...
Well this is good news. I found one semi loose glow plug with carbon past the seat. The previous owner put in the better AC60's . I think that was the number..
Engine warm, 6 cranks each.

The injectors should be here in a couple days.
Yes and I found it. Great manuals there.
COMPRESSION TEST — DIESEL ENGINESTo determine if the valves or rings are the cause of low compression, a test should be made to determine thecylinder compression pressure. When checking compression, the cranking speed must be at least 180 RPM and the...
I thought about a different truck. I am having a hard time parting with this one. It has grown on me. Plus like everything I seem to own, I end up throwing more money at it than it is worth. I paid too much for the truck and ended up fixing many things so far. My logic is it is low miles...
No they did not. I believe they lowered the shift points based on my gear ratio, tire size and the 6.2. I don't have any complaints with the transmission at all. It is the motor and not making enough power at higher RPM's. I really doubt it is a transmission issue. I could be wrong I guess. I...
I do have a TPS. I think the controller is working fine. In speaking with the manufacture about my truck, they programmed it for me before sending it based on my diesel app. All I have done is raise the lock up speed from 45 MPH to 55 MPH as it was hunting while driving on gravel to the...
I have always appreciated the knowledge base here. And yes that whole experience did teach me a lot. It also gave me confidence to dive into an automatic if the situation comes about. So in every bad situation, there is something positive to take away from it.
I ordered new injectors from...
Thank you. I was just logging on to take a look at the manuals. I drove the truck to town today. The truck scales were busy so I drove past. It sure does feel anemic. I hope to improve matters with a little work. Thanks for the quick answer.:-)
Are the injectors for our J code engines the same as the Civi motors? It looks like it, I thought I had better ask.
I had better take a look in the manuals too.
Hi Tim, Also really good to hear from you too. Lots has happened. Liz and I got sick of the drug houses around us in Oregon. The yurt was actually cool while I tore down the house to the ground. (black mold). But we moved the the northern Idaho panhandle after having had enough. 30K in permit...
Hi Chris... Good to hear from you. I had considered new injectors. I may try that after a compression test. I understand what the guys are saying about asking this truck to do hard work. I really like the truck and after a total rebuild on the 205 and adding a crossmember for rear support...
It came out of a 1993 chev truck. I had it rebuilt by a shop in Spokane. The torque converter was remanufactured by a second shop. So the same one for the 93 chev. It had a 6.5. This is a bad story. I planned on a super write up only to get it running and forget about it. I was essentially taken...
I completed my 4L80E install quite a while ago. It made the truck. I brought my RPM's down from 3K to 2 to 2100 at 60-65. I run tires just a shade shy of 33 inch. I put a mandrel bent 2.5 dual rear exit exhaust with free flowing Diesel Donaldson mufflers on. I need at least a full mile to pass...
