I take my 923A2 on road trips from time to time, out of my small town. Question: what radios do you travel with? CB? GMRS? In a pickup truck, I have experience with 10 miles on GMRS and 5 ish with CB. With a shitty 2 meter antenna. I'm pretty sure I could go 15 or 20 miles on a good. Gmrs.radio
Don't flame me with the usual "did you search" because I did.
Context: Previous SO is a bus driver and her organization consistently had buses freeze up while in operation last winter. As in, a bus full of kids stalls out and quits on the road. Think -40F.
It was 11 degrees here in Middle...
I have a small idea (I have a very small brain). Maybe someone can build a smaller cheaper battery charger that you can throw on your 5 ton that will keep each of your 4 batteries when the temp has been below zero for the last month.
Let me do some playing around. Ive got a few solar panels laying around. What I'm not sure of is how they would behave being wired in series to get the voltage over 24V. What size panels would you use? Two 10 watt panels wired in series would give you just less than an amp in a 24V system. Two...
So I built a small battery charger that I connected to the slave connector of my M923, It cost me less than $100, and most of that was the big ass slave connector. It trickles 5 amps to the battery bank. Nothing major but it seems to keep the truck up. We in Montana went a solid month below...
Hey brother this is my life. We have 8 UH-1Ns assigned and we never attempt to cold soak. We find that the engines never start on autos, and none of the instruments tend to like cold temperatures. If we can get them started in manual, we find our aircraft are as ready as the aircrew are as...
Sorry folks, I guess I could have been more clear in the original post. The truck did start, but only with ether shots. Would shoot it, burn through the shot, and repeat. Took after 3rd time.
Here is the part 1 youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BXgS8x1l08 Theres a part two of me in...
So played and posted a "diesel cold start" with my A2 the other day and it truly didn't want to go at 2 below. Did with either shots.
Question: do we have a small generator that makes power for 12V dc for the batteries, 120V for the block heater, and hot water to warm up water jackets?
Thank you, everyone. I'll play with the fuel cut off solenoid and report in. FYI, the truck started and stopped normally several times after pushing the emerg stop cable back in. Didnt need to reset anything on the pump.
This was a new one for me today. Pulled my 923A2 into the commissary parking lot today, and when I turned off the ignition switch, the truck continued to run. Never flinched. Hmm I say. Interesting.
Put the ignition back into run position and drove to our abandoned flightline, thinking if...
So I have an A2 which behaves properly except CTIS below zero degrees F. I know how to get around it. Am thinking of taking my A2 on a trip to the east coast, some 2500 south and east.
Lots of chatter about what people should carry with them as far as tools and possible spares. O-rings to...
Definitely pre-inspection. I got to inspect and play with the one I eventually won. Our DRMO and GL people are great. Of the 8 trucks and a M103-series trailers that went up, I got to hand pick the one of each I wanted.
So I've been scanning the forum a lot lately and have read extensively the what-to-watch-for and recovery threads. I'm amazed with the stories from the guys who bought vehicles 1000 miles away and bought them (won, I guess) from GL virtually sight unseen.
This is not one of them.
I recovered...
