what is a good product to dye/paint a top? Will it flake or show cracks if painted?

I was wanting to know if the Rubber Duck 4x4 Hummer H1 92-97.5 soft top-black will fit on a 1988 M998. I am trying to find, if its possible, an after market black soft top for an 1988 M998. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas
