Picked up a possible new rear end today. I may or may not use this. It is from a 72 Ford van and is the 2nd widest 9" rear made at 68". The issue is that the pumpkin is offset heavily to the passenger side. If I use it, more than likely I will be cutting the tubes off on each side and swapping...
Ya, ditching both. The rear will be a 4 link 9" Ford straight axle, the front will be equal length beams. This is going to be for open desert high speed stuff. The stock Humvee stuff is terrible up here in the desert. Hoping to pull about 20" of travel in the front and around 24" in the rear.
6L80 is a possibility. I am not worried about the 2.73 as the stock differentials and geared hubs are going in the trash. The Ford 9" in the back will prob have 5.13 gearing.
Hi all, figured I'd start a thread to document this junk truck build as I go along. It's going to be a long project as I only have one or two free days a month. Hopefully have it done within 5 years. The plan is to LS swap it, will be a N/A 5.3, will be cammed with some nice heads and...
It was totally fine. I think it's rated for 7500lbs and the HMMWV is well below that at 5200ish-lbs. I rented it for a "Suburban" which is 5700lbs. U-Haul doesn't have an issue with the weight, it's the width. I used 6, 2" straps from Home Depot. 2 of them to extend the U-Haul tire loops then 2...
This is good to know. I found the center link tied up in the engine bay with some leftover wires from the trans harness. So I need tie rod ends and tie rod shafts. Does anyone have the tie rod shafts part number off hand?
Hi all, was wondering the comparability of the parts in the title, M998 vs M1123. My 1123 is missing everything. The A2 stuff seems really expensive but I see earlier M998 stuff for dirt cheap. Can I get the 998 stuff and just slap it on? Thanks
Recovered. The forklift guy at Yermo was a pro, couldn't have gotten it on the trailer any more perfect. Was fun getting it off, didn't realize there were no tie rods, ended up using a tie down the keep the wheels sort of straight, took about an hour with a snatch strap to get it off. On another...
Cool deal, def not an a-hole. Tires are junk for sure, the rears have fist size holes in them, engine is missing most everything so it's def no gonna start. Have had good interactions before with them, but have only bought running stuff, and one car that wasn't running that they couldn't get on...
Great, appreciate it. I was able to get a U-Haul trailer rental and my sister in law is letting me use her Ram 2500. Having them fork it on the trailer will be easy, I'm gonna try to use a snatch strap to pull it off when I get it home. Should work, hopefully.
My EUC cleared. Any tips on recovery of a dead HMMWV with flats? More than likely I'll be picking up by myself with a U-Haul next week assuming you can still just show up to the Yermo lot.
Sweet deal, if they can dump it on the trailer that'll make the first part easy. I'll just have to figure out how to pull it off the trailer when I get home.
Hi all, bought another HMMWV, it's a non running bucket. Was planning on doing a U-Haul trailer for pickup, my question is, do you know if the yard guys bring out the non running trucks with the big fork loader? If so has anyone had them use it to drop a HMMWV right onto the trailer? Trying to...
Ok gotcha, I want to get something with a different rate. I don't care about increasing travel, just want better compliance going through washboard, would like to be able to go through with some speed I stead of 5mph.
