I like it. A front mount winch would probably interfere but I'm betting it can be engineered to be removable easy enough. Luckily I'm young enough that working on a truck this high doesn't scare me. Especially up on 16r20's. Just gotta build a hoist to pull under to lift the heavy stuff. I've...
I thought that was the answer but I don't like assuming anything. Once I gather all my pieces for this Frankenstein project I'll either need to build a hoist next to my garage or convince the wife I need an 816 too
You and I are on the same page. Either a 923 or a 931, sell the body and find an 813, 814, 818 etc cab/nose. I'd like to put a 8' drop side bed behind the crew cab. I bet I could even keep the steering column and shift tower from the 923 and make it work in the 813 :hammer:
Yes a stick would be great but my wife will use the truck to pull the horse trailer too. So I want to keep it "user friendly". That's also the reason for the crew cab. I've been figuring out a plan for ultimate sound deadening to go along with the stereo and possibly Super Duty seats.
I guess sometimes living outside the US has it's perks.
Anybody think I'll have a problem fitting the 8.3 with an intercooler under the hood of the 813? From the pictures it looks more narrow in the nose that a 923. Thinking about it though, since it fits the 855, I don't think I'll have an issue.
Looks like I have some gathering to do. I am contemplating a Crew Cab upgrade for the 813 too. This site is gonna get me in trouble with the Wife.
Do you think it would be easier to just swap the sheetmetal over from the 813 to the 923 (for example) instead of changing out the running gear in...
I used the advanced search on here and looked through every thread I could find on this so if I missed it I apologize.
But has anyone dropped in an 8.3/auto out of a 939 series into their 813 or the like? I like the look of the 813 but the engine/trans from the later models. Seems like it...
I don't have experience under the m35 but should just be moving cross members, shortening the rear drive shaft and having a longer shaft made for the front? While making the CC I could relocate the access for the shifter in the cab.
What about using an NV5600? It bolts right up to a Cummins and can handle more torque. I was hoping Tom would chime in so I could ask about using him to upgrade the 3053. If that's even a viable option for 800ft/lb torque.
That picture looks like he still has the stock hx35 turbo on it.
This is probably a dumb question since the 3053 and the 5 ton are different but would the clutch assembly be the same? I've driven manual trans but I've only ever rebuilt automatics so I'm still learning the details.
I'm glad to know of someone on here that builds them instead of going through Boyce or similar. It sounds like it will be fine. My Cummins will be a little more than "warmed over" though but that is just to make it easier to get this thing moving. I'll be looking at ~650HP but that's all in the...
Thanks again gimpy. I was looking on Boyce at their rebuilt trans and the 3053a says it's "fully synchroed and will hold up to high horsepower gas and diesel engines." Taken with a grain of salt, what kind of HP/Torque can a 3053a handle vs a 6453?
And about the OTR cabin, i know it is...
I have a few questions so bare with me.
First, you mean it was under powered just having the 109 on the back right? Not that it was under powered with the 109 and pulling a load?
Second, with the CC set up with the 12' bed, how was her performance? Good acceleration with no load? With load...
I like the idea, not sure about the wifey. Would have to do some serious sales pitching to pull that one off. I'd have to build in a tack room, slant dividers, gated windows that open, etc. Not saying it can't be done. Would definitely stand out at a show. Especially behind a CC M35!
I appreciate you being straight forward. And I realise the questions and expectations are high. What is comes down to is I don't like new vehicles. I prefer carbureted mechanical injection. My 72 Torino, 78 f150, previously owned 94 12v Cummins. I like the Vintage era vehicles so if I can make a...
Thanks guys. Pulling a goose neck is important just because that's what I have now. I can look into it once I have the deuce. I can always figure out a new trailer situation. My dad has a receiver that he mounted between the frame rails under his bed in his Chevy 3500 HD. There's a square cut in...
Do you guys think there's enough room under the bed to mount a hitch? If so, I could build a 4 corner chain lift in the hay barn to lift the bed up when i need to pull the goose neck. Then drop the trailer, back into the barn and lower the bed back down.
A drop side would be great. Have a...
