Changed fuel filters in MEP-803A... now it won't start.

Thanks all. I figured out why they "king kong'd" the separator. First they neglected to put some lube on the gasket and then they clocked the petcock to the rear. Necessitating a full turn past tight enough.

Changed fuel filters in MEP-803A... now it won't start.

The 2 screws on top of the rail filter did the trick. Thanks Griz!

Changed fuel filters in MEP-803A... now it won't start.

I changed the filter/water separator and the rail cartridge. It started briefly and quit. Now, after letting it prime for a while, it still won't start. Is there a trick to getting the fuel flowing again?

Another question... I read the manual, but I have one more connection question. While AM-VM switch is in 240v single phase, can I run 120v simultaneously off of L0 and L3? The voltage is there.... just dont want to make a mistake.

Does it seem right that L1 & L3 are the only connection. Is this correct to put a resistive load between them?

Yes, the heater when removed had black and white wired to that terminal block. I was able to wire black to L1, white to L3 and it works. By disconnecting each of the 3 heating elements I'm able to load 2.5K, 5K and 7.5K How long should I run each load... 2.5K, 5K etc. to clean it out?

Here's the single and 3 phase wiring... There is only 1 black and 1 white plus ground.

Question: How should I wire a 240 single phase heater that only has black, white and ground wires? What lugs?

I'll be putting more load on it soon. I'm likely wet stacking it and crud is building up.

Blocked valve sounds more plausible. Thanks.

Hours: 72 Today, after starting... it ran rough for a few minutes and then the engine died. On attempting restart it wouldn't stay running after holding in start for 10-15 seconds. Was belching black smoke. I got it started again and it sounded like it was missing on a cylinder. I was...

Installed the oil pressure gauge. Works perfect! A little over 40psi cold and a little under 40psi at 180deg. After full warm up it settled at about 28 psi.

I think it has the same engine as the MEP-806a :p

Thanks. I will heed that advice. I run it for 2-3 hours every day. After it hits 180 degrees coolant temp, the exhaust is pretty clean and seems to be getting cleaner.

Hello, I'm new, but I feel welcome already after learning a lot from the posts I have read. I live off-grid and recently bought a MEP-803a for powering a future woodworking shop and charging a battery bank on dark days. The genset is a 2000 with a 2012 Tier 2 and had 9 hours on the hobbs...
