Thanks, I'm an illustrator by trade, so I have a leg up on this kind of thing. I find it helpful to visualize a project like this at the early stages.
It's easier than it looks. I take a photo of the empty space, print it, and put it under tracing paper on my drawing board. Then I find the 2...
135GMC--I see your from St. Paul; ironically I got the new AC probably less than 20 minutes from you at Sportsman's Guide. In the end though, it was a bust; there was a leak somewhere in the coolant line and it just wouldn't hold refrigerant. Shiney new, but wouldn't work--I suspect the local...
Hi Mark,
You were one of the guys that helped me out with some of my shelter-to-trailer mounting details--thanks. I fabricated a similar system of corner blocks that I saw in the detail photos on your excellent site. We are all envious of your green toys; sure wish I could get a HMMWV to pull...

I adapted a standard 4x8 utility trailer for mine and upgraded the axle to 3500# with ST225/75D15 tires. It's loaded pretty full with radios, batteries, generator, etc., but I can still pull it with my 4 cylinder Jeep Wrangler. Not fast, mind you, but can still do highway speeds. My...
Here's 2 others that were commonly used for wire antennas in the RTTY shelters. They didn't use a launcher with these though, they were assembled on the ground and then pulled erect with the guy ropes and a pivoting base plate. Both were 40' in length: AB-155 and AB-86.
I agree; quality construction throughout! I bought a rivnut hand-tool early on in the project that proved to be a good investment. Not as much power as the pneumatic ones of course, but a lot cheaper. Rivnuts hold a LOT better than sheet metal screws whre it counts. You can find RV windows...
Good Grief! I can't believe it's been over a year since I left off with this post--kind of an unfinished conversation, I guess.
Well anyway, I did finish the this project, at least as much as these kind of things are ever finished, and have been greatly enjoying every minute I spend inside...
Hi Guys! Saw your post the other day Jay--Yes I finally saw the Ebayer I referenced at the top was offering a manual and floppy for sale WITHOUT a unit this summer. I think I still paid too much, but bought a set and took a quick look before filing it away for later use. As I remember, the...
Progress report
Here's a few photos of the new exterior paint scheme. I went with desert tan; sold locally as "Marsh Grass" ( A rose by any other name...). Seemed to make sense with my sand beach just a few feet away--when it's here it will be parked under some cedars for some shade. It's...
Thanks Q710M. That's an interesting approach, and a new one for me--kind of makes the rubber mounts look antique.
You're probably right about the prohibitive cost though--still interesting to consider. The math looked a little intimidating at first, but it's just algebra.
I had asked Ben at...
Did you see 54reo's post on another forum? The ad says there is a fuel heater to part out--looks like it could be in rough shape, though. Here's the link:
