MEP-803a starts, then stalls - SOLVED

Green Mountain Generators, or ebay. If you have something super specific, like the main rotary switch, that's a tough one. It really depends. The only way to "convert to civilian" that I know of is to sell it and buy a civilian generator. I wouldn't do that.

MEP-803a starts, then stalls - SOLVED

Sure enough, I popped those 2 wires off and it fired up and stayed running. So I pulled one off another gen I had, and went to take this one out and it broke off after the threads in the water pump. I was able to drill and bend it around with a scratch awl enough to be able to extract it with...

MEP-803a starts, then stalls - SOLVED

I can start it up, but then it stalls almost the second I let go of the start switch. The temp light comes on saying it is overheated, even though it's ice cold. Fuel tank is 3/4 full. I haven't run it properly for maybe a year, or a year and a half. Before this it always worked without...

There is no wet stacking. New head, 1 new piston, the other cleaned, cylinders honed

Thanks guys, it lives again. and sounds great. Odd thing, I ran it for an hour at 75% capacity. I warmed it up, and as soon as I switched on the load, it began smoking. I couldn't discern a color. Not white or blue, but not carbon black either. I figured it was assembly oil burning off, but...

What kind of oil do folks use for break in? Just normal in-spec oil with zinc additive?

Thank you. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't overlooking anything that may not be in the printed manual.

Ok, so I cleaned up the bores with a hone, they cleaned up really nice. I checked them with a bore gauge, still in spec. Sprayed penetrant dye on it,, no cracks. Next I'll order a straight edge and feeler gauges and see if it warped. It's looking really good though.

    802a

So I have some photos after pulling the pistons. This is the worst one. It's from the rear cylinder. This is the one that had the missing chunk stuck to the valve - The cylinder on first inspection looks ugly, but no deep gashes. Other than the bits of piston stuck to the sides, it...

    802a

Hi folks. So last year I picked up an mep-802a at auction, had 6 hours on it. All of the dates say 2010, and it has the fuse mod already on it. Looking inside, it's clean, very clean. So I believe the hours, it hasn't been rebuilt. When I first started it last year, I noticed a lot of...
