I got a foot-long piece of matching thread pipe, and added a tractor exhaust cover. It sits flat on the end of the pipe, and when the gen starts the exhaust pressure opens it....easy peasy!

I normally run the MEP803 once a month for an hour. Am I wasting fuel?....is 30 minutes a month long enough? The remote start switch handles start-up and shut-down from the panel in the basement. I run the house, which is minimal, and 4 x 1500 watt milk house heaters to provide load...
I agree...I wasn't clear in the initial post. "There is a remote manual switch for the gen near the breaker box." I'll use the correct terminology next time. We're all still learning. :)
Thanks to both of you!
Jim
As they say..God protects fools and children. At the time of your reply I had already started the generator and was pulling over 30 amps a side using the clothes dryer etc. It was showing 60 cycles, 118 volts a side. Yikes! I immediately shut it down.
As to your first question...yessir, it...
We had a thundershower this morning around 5AM. Lightning, but nothing within several miles based on the 'one-onethousand' methodology. After one bolt of lightning the MEP803a started up, ran for about 5 seconds, then shut down. Ever heard of such a thing? Obviously the timing of the two...
Thanks for the heads-up Chris! In addition to the power company having hooks into the software in my house, I'm concerned about inverter/etc manufacturers doing the same.
Case in point from previous experience...many consumer-grade security cameras go thru 'company' servers to provide their...
I feel like I'm swimming way over my head, but at least treading water!! :-) Reading the info on the Sol-Ark site...thanks!
I concur, rtrask....diesel for the 803 would be a painful last resort, but even now is extremely comfortable to have in the mix!
So...sitting here minding my own...
^^^^^ ....and that just annoys me ;-)
I'm admittedly a rank amateur. How would one run the massive output of the 803 into the battery bank?...is that the charge controller/ inverter function?
PS- I'm doing my on-line research, but been-there, done-that has it's advantages. I appreciate your...
Thanks for the responses!...great information! You've confirmed LiPo as the way to go.
We're doing the due diligence on energy needs, and between a monthly (since move-in) consumption graph from the utility cooperative, and the little 'Killawatts" are getting a handle on it.
The grid-tie vs...
It's hard to believe we've had our MEP803 in place for 4 years already. In spite of the fact it's only been used in earnest twice, we're happy with the investment. It's hard-wired to the main 200 amp breaker panel thru an 80 amp breaker and an either/or power lock-out on the main/gen...
Thanks, Chris! We'll be doing the final wiring Tuesday, including a remote start switch to the basement, and a small solar panel charger. Can't wait to be up and running!
Jim
To once again revive a necro-thread...sorry....I want to make sure I do this right. Genset will be connected via 4-wire to the main house box. After reading the post twice, still confusnicated. Do I understand that....
The neutral bond bar in the genset should be disconnected, and the 4...
Checked with the DOM for the jets today. He says SOP is to add Biobor algicide to each load of Jet-A they get in, so I"m covered there. On the sumped fuel they re-use in the Jet-A truck diesel fuel tank, they add Schaeffer's Neutra.
Took a pic of the Neutra label, which says it...
