Yea, i've taken mine off and put it back on with no problems or damage to the seals even stored it outside, suspended like Holitik described, and i use armoral on the seals. Don't know about the soft topper, i know there's a style on ORD's website that says it neends no drilling.

Been putting some miles on the old truck.
Have not had the chance to drive a full tank without any 4x4 action, but the mpg's I have been seeing have been about 19 mpg for a tank that was about 1/4 of the time in 4WD, and about 15 for a tank that was about 3/4 of the time in 4WD...
