Trying to figure out the difference structurally between say an M1078 and M1083
From what I can tell is the m1083 has a ~1.5' longer bed and a second axle. Are there any differences, other than the second axle, such as frame composition or anything that gives it 5t instead of 2.5t?

The 'problem' I was trying to solve was how to let the truck easily transition from 4x4 to 4x2. Improved mpg/noise/wear n tear.

New here, but can't find anything coming up in the search. Looking at an LMTV for an overlander. (also F750, c7500 etc). I need 4 seats though. I'm SURE it has been discussed and I can't find it. Has anyone extended the cab on an LMTV? You'd need to remove the airbox and spare - make it a Steyr...
