Update -
So I checked over the steering on the truck. Turns out the slop in the steering was a spacer that I forgot to install inside the drag link. The steering gearbox is still suprisingly in good shape. :-D
All I need to get her back to normal is a drag link and some body parts...
I purposely rolled down the windows because I knew they'd get smashed. When I saw the sherrif's trucks and the tow truck I was expecting to drive up to a smoldering truck frame with all of the 'rockwells' missing.
They tried to drive the truck out until I took the batteries with me. It had been backed up about a foot until the realized that the steering was gone.
I thought about letting someone else fix it, but who knows what bubba would have done as a trail fix. It was like we were in a race to...
If by 870 you mean M4A3. I really thought about it last night, but I'm so sick (still sick from last weekend's recovery in the rain) that I just couldn't do it. Then I started thinking about going to jail over shooting some moron stealing some $50 shackles and suddenly it wasn't so fun.
Yeah...
Oh and one more thing - with the new drag link on, I've got like 4" of free play between resistance turning left to right. That's not right, Does anyone know how to fix that?
Update -
So I headed out there equiped with my generator, plasma cutter, 9" angle grinder, and a ton of other tools...
When we got onto the road before the trail I saw two sherrif's SUV's and two big tow trucks. I was really worried something happened. But it turned out that someone got...
Yeah, if I had taken the wo/w truck I would have had a better chance.
Freighttrain, you are pretty much correct.
And yes, that steel is pretty weak on the drag link. Lowest bidder, remember
Oh and another thing
I was keeping an eye on some rednecks passing by, when I FELL OFF THE BUMPER! Onto the stump and then rolled down the hill. About 5ft total. I'm all banged and scratched up.
It came off the other truck in 45 seconds. I torched the stuck on, pb blasted it, smacked it with a hammer... no dice.
Hoping the plasma cutter or the angle grinder will be the ticket tommow.
Winch has a broken engagement lever on the front.
My wife is unable to drive due to a seizure back in Dec., my friends were all out of town, and I was alone in the woods. If I had not panicked as much as I did, I could have probably just saved myself from a lot of damage. But I got a...
Really appreciate the kind words folks. Like the South she will rise again! :-D
I brought the chainsaw out and got the trees cut down. I think once I get the link off I should be able to drive out. (Hopefully :|) I might be able to justify to the wife to buy another winch truck and use this...
It has NOT been a good day!
I went to go fishing this morning, but on the way to the lake I got stuck, slid down a hill and got a tree wedged between the bumper and the fender. I broke the drag link and bent the knuckle boot cover! Trashed the driver's fender, tool box, mirror...
