Have you tried running a rubber hose directly into the fuel pump to container of diesel?
If you fuel lines don't look good they could have pin holes or cracks sucking in air.
Since it came out of a GSA could another government agency had it other then the military such as a fire department?
Or some one swapped it out on one the lots thinking no one would notice...lol
Lol I think so...looks like some one could have put an injection pump from a ford 6.9 on it. Maybe thats why it is having problems.
Looks to be a Stanadyne DB2829-4541 injection pump for a ford 6.9
O yea...if you guys want an example of how crappy a spliced fuel line is take a soda straw and cut a small line length wise into the straw and try drinking with it...it works but it "sucks"...lol
As I mentioned on page 5 of this thread that was exactly what was causing my M38a1 to do what your truck is doing. It is really difficult some times to find a fuel line with a splice in it. I hope that was the issue so you can get it on the road.

Na don't worry about. That is why I am on this site to learn, I just remembered seeing it in the parts manual when I was looking to see if the key/lock cylinder could be replaced and recalled seeing it labeled as a safety switch. Now I know it isn't.
Isnt this a safety switch? The neutral safety switch.
It doesn't allow it to start unless its in Neutral. If its messed up it might be telling the engine to cut out when it should not. Perhaps when he puts it in gear it cut the engine out.

Does the engine respond to throttle ok when its in park?
My M38A1 did some thing similar and it turned out the fuel pickup line in the fuel tank had broken and was sucking air.
It would run fine when in park but as soon as I would put a load on it it would die as the gas would move around...
Could there be a faulty safety switch or fuse cutting it out?
That could be why the one that was described earlier in the thread would die when put into gear. I have seen this happen in other vehicles that have faulty safety switches.
For example telling the engine its not in park, a door...
