Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Victory!!!!!! Installed the repaired HH and bled the filters. After a brief cough of black smoke she fired. NICE to hear it run since I bought it in non running condition. I still need to work over the fuel system (clean, clean) but I feel pretty darn good. Now I can't wait for the first drive...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

And after taking out the plunger here is another problem. I can see where the modern fuels come up short on lubricates and I feel this could have helped do this. Course with the condition I found the filters in dirty fuel may have added to it. Where can I get the broken parts and is the bottom...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

This evening I removed the HH and this is what I found. Not sure what the round thing is but I'm guessing there should be more to it. It appears that it has slipped and got wollered a bit. I assume this is what goes under the shaft in the assembly and the hole in it and slots are for oil. Now...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Found some drawings that I can see. It looks like you guys are right about the button falling off. Looks like I will need to pull the head when I get time and see what I find.

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Thanks guys, I've been absorbing as much material as I can find. It's been raining here today and I've been in and out but here is what I've found out. I took off the plug in the center of the HH and there is no vertical movement in the plunger and it was stuck in the up position. I took a 1/4"...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Update, I have no fuel from the center bolt hole in the HH. The electric pump is working and there is a small geiser from the bleeder on the secondary filters (2 inches or so). Again it seemed that the space under the center HH blot hole held an once or two of cleaner, shouldn't this be full of...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Thanks, I've always been too "hard headed" to give up that easy. Today I decided to remove the 12 point nut that is on the side of the HH and check it. It was a little resistant to movement but I was able to remove it with a magnet once I cleaned it with carb cleaner and wiggle'ed it a bit. It's...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Today I tried to start it with no good results. New fully charged batteries, replaced the primary filter, bled all the air, and she still not run. I plan to try again tomorrow cracking the lines and adding some air pressure to the tank. I'm just about ready to say the HH is history and call in...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Thanks, ran out of time today but I hope to give it try in the AM. Blew all the fuel lines out and they seemed clean and checked the fuel shut off valve once again. I am almost sure it's right now unless the HH is done. The wedge sounds like it's in the grove and the linkage moves freely. Still...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Well they were pretty darn dirty. I could not blow through one, the other one seemed pretty open. I "think" the HH was protected from debris, or I hope it was. I'll try again in a couple hours to start it again.

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

I have done most of these but just today found this filter. On the cutoff lever, it's at the 6:00 and not the 7:00. Where should it be? I'm not sure what the "plunger" is and I may be missing something. If you can let me know I'll do it. I have done 1-5 and it seems it's trying to pump some...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

I found the return fuel filter once I got her home. It is VERY nasty and there was about 1/2" of crud in the bottom of the bowl (cleaned out in the photo). My questions are, is there a spring that holds the filter snug against the ports that is missing? This filter will slide down the stem and...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

OK, how long does it take to crank or how many times of say 5 seconds? The fuel I seen in the clear return hose is that overflow from the injectors or is it bypassing and just filling up the tube. With all that I have read I really may be running out of battery before the injectors prime.

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

I cracked a couple lines and got a little like bubbling but no solid fuel. Just when I think maybe the air was trying to be pushed out, my batteries fizzled, as well as me. I really want to thank you guys for your help. I'm somewhat familiar with purging air from a diesel system but it seems...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

I think I did and it had good flow. I would guessssssss maybe 1+GPM from the electric pump and it had just a small bit of pressure when restricted. Slight hold would completely stop the flow. Something I forgot to mention, I did notice fuel in the clear return hose and I guess it's a good sign.

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

And if it doesn't move or moves? I did notice engine oil when I removed the cover. Is all of this lubed by engine oil? Sorry for so many questions but I have O experience with these vehicles and it's still about 100 miles away. I'm still trying to get her going for the adventure drive back home...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Went up and worked on the Deuce again today and still could not get it started. I took the shutoff apart and cleaned things up with carb cleaner. It seems that the linkage works freely now. Also I took out the rod with the little wedge and cleaned that up too. In doing so I took a small...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Well judging by the other vehicles in his garage no maintenance was ever done. He did admit that it has sat for about 18 months but it ran like a charm before he parked it. It appears that he put less than a thousand miles on it since the purchase. The mileage stated on the title and what the...

Bought a Deuce but engine will not start.

Thanks, next trip I'll pull the cover and take a look. Will "Sea Foam" help in the fuel also?
