1958 International cargo truck????

hey guys im new to this site, i have a 1958 international but i have NO lucky finding parts or anything to even do with my truck...im 18 and im starting to get a noice in the front tire...i think it might be the brakes...dose anyone know where i can get the value of my truck??? thanks everyone...jehova lopez

OK, I am assuming this is a 5 ton gasser. IHC, Mack, and Diamond T made them... or you have a 1700 series gasser civvy model or a R190 or what??? In this area, noise in a tire is usually a chunk of Ice floating around in the tube caused by water injected by the compressor when assembling and checking..probably not that in Bakersfield, CA for sure.

From your avatar pic it almost looks like you have a smaller IH truck. In addition to Ace's suggestions you might try getting your International model number and post to the forums at Binder Bulletin:

If the avatar pic is the truck you are talking about, it might be easier for members to evaluate if you post it as an attachment photo. It looks like a 1/2 or 3/4 ton pick-up painted OD, but is it authentic? I don't know. But there are members here that will look at better picks and probably give you an accurate answer.

Are you looking for repair advise? Are you looking to sell it? Do you know any history on it, or where it came from?

IH trucks still have a following and there are parts out there. From what I've learned here at SS, the military used quite a few vehicles in the past that may qualify your truck as an MV. It looks good green, that's for sure! Any markings or dataplates?

Also, the moderators may reassign this thread to another forum area, but you will still get member responses.

Good luck and stay around. Your next vehicle could be a truck that you can haul your IH in the bed of!!

haha yea i hope i can get a duce....im 18 so im starting off medium...lol ill get a picture up later today of the Door stamp.....ive been sick these couple of days and going outside is the last thing i want lol but ill get that pic later.

Looking forward to the pics. It looks like a pretty straight truck. Very interesting. If I was still living out there in Santa Clarita, I'd have to take a look at it in person. IH made good trucks.

From the look of the data plate (us navy)it was orignally most likely a marine corp truck,(otherwise a navy truck) they liked I.H. trucks and used them almost exclusively during WWII. It is a nice complete and surely rare truck. Although its a typical production model it does have some modifications made special for the military. I hadnt seen one before or for sale, value is hard to say as its so unusual ,not many people would be familiar w/ it so a definate value is difficult. Use the link in old Vws2 post and check the IH collectors websites, also search IH trucks and see what other info you can find, its definately a unique and interesting truck that Im sure someone, if not you, would love to restore as a rare example of a I.H.truck.

oh id love to restore it...just i cant really find any parts...im supose to get the upohstery done for free...but havent heard back from the guy yet...i was offerd 15thousand for it from a man who owend a glass shop...but i told him know because it was my 2 month driving it and i love the thing lol. but yea its very uniq i was told it was used to do beach operations and all kinds of cargo aswell...and it was in some paraids the army base threw in the town of OXNARD ca.

Seriously! If you're having a hard time finding parts... There's your answer.

It's a nice truck, but if your wanting a deuce or something similar, get what you want and let that glass-man get what he wants.

Welcome to the site! You have an S-120 4x4. It most likely has a BD 240 cu" inline engine, but a 220 & a 265 was also availiable for it. The engine data info is stamped on a raised boss on the left front corner of the block, just under the cylinder head/exhaust manifold. It probably has a T-98 4 speed transmission. The S Series was made from mid 1955 through mid 1957. Another site to check out that will speciffically help with the truck is OLDIHC.org. From there, get the manuals. You'll also be suprised to know that that NAPA has most all the parts you'll ever need for that truck. You may have to find an "Old Guy" that knows how to read the paper books, but they have stuff for it. The hardest thing to find for it, will be the rear brake drums! Those chrome headlite rings are also very scarce too. They stick out so far, they were the first part to the wreck.

As you already know, that is a very valuable truck and is not replaceable. It represents a lot of history, so Don't Beat it. If you want a Deuce, somebody right here will probably trade you one for it - now that would be something to drive to school. You could park ANY place you wanted to.

Please tell us more about it. What voltage is it? In cicilian production, it starte out 6 volts, but changed to 12 volts around 1957. Take some pictures of the engine compartment & all around the truck. I have the same truck - but not military. It was not just too rare.

You have a very nice S-120. The S series was replaced by IHC, mid 1957, with the A series. It is NOT an A! The A is a completely different body that takes a different windshield. Sometimes if a vehicle doesn't sell in the year it was built, it is titled in the year its sold, but that still doesnt make it an A. The rear box & fenders were carried over to the A's.

Someone has taken good care of it. It doesn't show too much sever use. It has numerous accessories that are niether stock, nor military. To my knowledge IHC never had a stock rear step bumper. They were all aftermarket, and therefore, there are numerous designs and shapes. It does have the holes for a pintle. The front bumper is a home job. It has some bows & a replacement tarp. The screws in the brass name plate, stating its an A, are not IHC. Certainly the cab and front fenders don't go with the Tag! Mostly it looks like somebody wanted it to look military. Different layers of paint would give some clues.

Its a very nice old truck. That little Dana front axel needs some new wipers on the ball joints, The front springs tend to loose their arch on those. That changes the castor some and they will get to shimming. Keeping the front tires balanced, helps, as does the shock on the tie rod. The hood was made to open from the side. It was probably geared low. There is often a tag on one of the bolts on the differential carrier housing, with two numbers on it. Divide them, to give the rear end ratio.
